AMC AMX 1970 Description
Up for sale is a 1970 AMX project originally out of Arizona, ow living in Florida. The car is heavily optioned with ram air, ower steering, ower dual piston brakes, ilt column, ir conditioning, adio fader(no radio present), 90/auto(currently 360 with correct auto), orque links, :15 AMC 20 Twin Grip, 140 speedo/tach, ual sport mirrors and electric wipers. It spent most it's life in Arizona, ut has been here in in Florida since the early 2000's.Though a factory 390/auto, t has a 360 auto. The block itself is a 70-71 with mid 70's heads(still hooked to the borg warner). Got the engine to run strong, hecked the oil and found milk, hen stopped. No milk before hand, ctually the oil was very clean. Gasket somewhere appears to have came loose. Carb DOES NOT go with the car.
Sheet metal is in fair to good shape. Rust in the lower quarters(pictured), id trunk seam section(pictured), wo small golf ball erosion on the passenger floor pans. Most noteworthy sections of floor pan rust is on the drivers side, he section directly underneath the seats; in between floor pans. The frame that the seat mounts to is fine, hile there is sheet metal that will have to be replaced that overlaps the section. In other words, on load barring. Every section not mentioned is in good shape.
The roof and around the windows(quarter glass) are impressive. A few small spots around the back glass(pictured). Cowl, oof, pper quarters, ockers and fenders appear nice. Rust in lower door corners. Unibody frame rails are sound. The trunk has pin holes(pictured), hich are easy to inspect due to a missing fuel tank. Rear wheel wells hold no rust. Typical rust under battery tray(pictured). Worst case of rust on the entire car is on the hood. It would be safe to say the hood is toast unless a master body man has a point to prove... Plus side is the hood appears to house the complete ram air assembly minus the chrome trim around the openings, ut actuator included. The louvers are not installed. They came with the car loose and I thought they looked too good to picture off to the side!
The interior houses the original bucket seats(turtle backs no good), workable dash pad and dash face. The car comes equipped with a tilt column(keys) and rim blow. While the wheel itself appears to be beyond repair, he "AMX" center piece is in good shape. Inside is a colorful 140mph/tach cluster and clock, long with electric wipers. Console has a crack along the front RH side. A/C vents appear to be uncracked! Door panels and seats were redone in the past, long with sections in the rear. But the rear does have the hard to find plastic trim dividers/sail seam trim in the rear. Drivers door decided it doesn't want to latch shut, ight after I convinced the passenger door to open. Funny how that works...
Included in the auction is, hat was told to me by the previous owner, n NOS grille, lear grille lenses and housings. All were given to me out of box NOS. The grille is in great shape, ut has one crack in a lower mounting tab from being moved around out of box(pictured). It is a lower mounting tab, ot visible, nd can still be fixed. Though such a small imperfection, t's important all the cards are on the table. The lenses and lens housings are part number stamped, ut of the box NOS. The clear lens separate from the housing came undrilled to fit the "piece sign" emblem. One side has been assembled by previous owner as an example on how to do the other assembly.
Here is a great project with a few of the very hard to find items included. The door tag reads as followed:
