Buick Other 1926 Description
Up for auction is a solid running and driving 1926 Buick Standard Six Sedan. This four door luxurious and elegant car of the late 20’s starts, runs, stops and drives as it should. The car had a really nice restoration about 15-20 years ago. At that time theroof and wood, interior, engine and exterior were all beautifully done or refreshed. The car sports a deephunter green body with yellow/gold accent pinstriping around the beltline. The fenders and upper body is a gloss black. Wooden artillery wheels are solid and strong with good tires & tubes. The wheels are the demountable type and a good spare wheel is on the back of the car. It appears that safety glass has been installed and there isa vertical crack in the windshield. The car has all original chrome on bumpers, grill and small accent parts. All four doors close and latch easily, when I took the pics I left the passenger door ajar, but it will slam closed and stay tightly closed correctly.
The seats are the original 1926 Buick yet and the headliner and panels, I think, look to be restored or are very well-preserved originals. The interior has a rug rail and footrest in the rear of the car for comfort. The original sidepull handles survive as well. The big straight original Buick six motor purrs along and the clutch feels good. The engine starts easily and the gears will shift into all three forward gears and one reverse. The brakes are good but don’t compare to modern ones- they stop the car and the emergency brake holds the car when the engine is off. The parking brake has a very good ratchet to hold it. The windshield wiper unit is missing. The gas tank has been cleaned and resealed, all fuel lines cleaned or replaced and the vacuum gas system does still work properly. Has the original carburetor as well, and it was rebuilt.
All exteriorlights work and the car even has an interior light on a pillar with a switch, speedometer works when driving too. The car has an added temp gauge for the engine and it maintains good oil pressure. Mechanically it is just as a ’26 Sedan ought to be. The car is a stunner and is massive as Buick was a top-of-the-line brand in 1926 for GM. Videos of the motor and car driving can be seen at youtube by typing "Buick 1926 Chochole" and I have uploaded four (4) small clips.
I have a clear and open title for the car ready for a new owner. Winner to pay with bank-to-bank wire transfer or cash in person. I can assist with loading the car, it will drive up onto a trailer without a problem. Thanks for looking and ask any questions, text them to me at 630-935-8561, thanks. Lincense plate does not come with the car, sorry.
On Nov-12-16 at 07:35:12 PST, seller added the following information:A question was asked about the transmission: this year car has straight-cut gears and dbl-clutching does help to shift. The car hasn't been driven much recently and the more it drives, the easier it gets to shift. I start the car in gear and then once underway, the gears shift even without dbl-clutching. I am not very good at driving these 20's cars but I can get it up to about 30-35mph and suspension is good. It looks like the exhaust manifold has a repair on it where it has cracked, besides that no issues mechanically. Please understand that these big 20's cars are unique and take some learning to drive.
