Buick Other 1937 Description

1937 Buick - 2 door business coupe

Nice complete, running and driving, original car.According to previous owner, thecar was restored in the late 70's anddrivenoccasionallythrough out the 80's.The owner's deathput itinto long term storage and it was driven very little until about 5 years ago. Good driver quality car as it is or would be the perfectcandidate for an easyrestoration.- It still has it's original 248 c.i. straight 8 cyl motorwith manual 3 speed transmission. These cars had 100 hp from the factory compared to Ford and Chevy having 85. They were more in the class of Packard at the time and that is saying a lot.

'37 and '38 Buicks are beautiful original, but I'd love to see this one mildly hot rodded.Being a business coupe witha unique drivetrain, long nose and good looking grill all it basically needs is to be lowered. My father has a '37 Century that has been street rodded, these cars look fantastic with the nose low.

Description.

Drivetrain- 248c.i./100hp. Original straight 8 cyl engine with original 3 speed manual transmission. The car starts easy and runs good. It doesn't run hot, smoke or make any weird noises. I consider the motor very sound but do not know if the engine has ever been rebuilt. Carb could use a refreshing from where it has been sitting but it has a smooth idle and sounds good. The transmission is the original 3 speed manual. It shifts smooth in and out of gear, clutch feels fine. Brakes are original hydraulic drums and are in good working order. No unusualnoises out of the rear end. Tires have good tread but are old and have dry rot.

Paint/Body- The body is nice on the car. Fenders, floors, frame etc all look really good.I can see the car has had a little work done on the very bottom edge of the deck lid but nothing too major and you can only see where they repaired it from the inside.Glass is old but complete. The windshield has yellowed and driver's side window has a crack but its all there and isstill useable. The car was repainted sometime in the late 70's. The paint hasheld up well for it's age. It still hasa nice deep shine overall but doeshave little nicks, scratches and flaws. The worst of it would be a spot on theside of the passenger fender that looks to have beena spot of bad paint prep work or something more so thana rust issue. The car is all steel. The running boards are in good structural shape but need a new blackrubber cover/mat.

Interior-Stock seat that has been recovered in red cloth. The car was redonein the late 70's, I would guess the interior was recoveredat that time. It's clean with no major rips or tears and the red looks good against the black paint. Gauges look good and all seem to work. Wipers do not work, I have not diagnosed the problem but the systemlooks complete (vacuum maybe?). Glass shift knob looks cool and is period correct. Steering wheel is original, the outer ring is worn. This car does not appear to have come with the optional radio.
