Buick LeSabre 1988 Description
This is the last time I will be listing this wagon in its current condition. If it does not sell I will perform the repairs I have recommended in my ad. I will also be swapping on some 18" wheels and lowering the car. 97369 original miles, 5.0 V8 (307), automatic over drive trans (TH200-4R). Runs, drives, stops, and steers very good. Working A/C and heat.
Original white paint in good shape, a few minor dings and paint chips, but the body is in overall great shape for a 28 year old GM car. The trim on the tailgate was loose. I pulled it off, you just have to remove the old foam tape and reinstall the trim with new tape. I have supplied pictures of the 2 dents on the car, the left rear behind gas door, and on the tailgate below the trim line, as seen in the tailgate picture the flexible filler panel between the rear bumper and body is cracking. There is also one small spot of rust below the right rear glass as seen in pictures
Interior in great shape except for headliner which has a few loose sections, but is not flapping in the breeze. A new headliner and a light detail would have it looking almost new inside. The third row, rear facing, seat looks like it has never been used.
All 5 power windows work. the switches on driver door are new.
The 20" Centerline wheels seen in these pictures are not included. Included is theoriginal 15" steel wheels with original"wire" hubcaps. 15" tires have almost 100% tread but are almost 12 years old and dry cracked. The 15s drive fine and will get to a tire store to put new ones on, but I wouldn't try driving out of town on them. I may consider selling the 20s at additional cost to the winning bidder
New fuel pump9 months ago, new battery, plugs, and wires12 months ago.
Took it on a drive to Laughlin NV, from LakeHavasu City AZ, beginning of June. It was about 113* that day. Had no problems. I have driven this about 1800 miles since I got it12 months ago. I have only had a problem one time, I ran out of gas because the gas gauge isn't working.
The car prefers 91 octane, she pings pretty goodon anything lower.
The brakes work good, but they do squeak a little sometimes. Nothing to be concerned about.
Original AM/FM radio works, but only get sound from left speakers. Power antenna does not currently work and is stuck about 1/3 of the way up.
***This car is 28 years old and it sat for almost 12 years before I saved it. It does have some things that should be done because of its age.***
Almost all of the hoses are original from 1988. They should be changed before any real road trips, one of those hoses requires removal of the water pump to change it, I recommend a water pump at the same time, it isn't leaking, but if it is off the car I would replace it, along with the thermostat and radiator cap. I have already purchased new belts for the car, but have not installed them.
The transmission shifts great, but the pan gasket does leak a little, the area is greasy and I had to put 1.5 quarts of fluid in it when I got the car running. I have not had to top it off since, but the pan gasket should be changed.
Valve cover gaskets are seeping. I don't get oil on my driveway, but I can smell it on the exhaust sometimes.
Windshield wipers work intermittently, appears to be dirty contacts at plug on motor. Wipers work after I wiggle the plug, but I mostly just don't drive it in the rain.
Occasionally on cold start there is a puff of smoke. The most likely cause is valve stem seals, which is really not a surprise on a 28 year old General Motors product. You could drive this car for several years without that causing a problem, but if it bothers you then plan on a valve job. It has used 3 quarts of oil in 1800 miles over the last 12 months
The check engine light is on. There are a couple of rodent chewed wires by the distributor which is the probable cause for the light. It does not affect drivability. If you live somewhere with emissions testing you will need to fix that.
Catalytic convertor has been replaced at some point
I have too many cars and a few that I am looking to sell, If something else sells first I will probably keep this one, I like it. This would be AWESOME with a LS engine swap. Maybe with a turbo??? And you can drive it while you collect parts for the swap.
I can meet with an auto transport truck if you plan to have the car shipped. I can also arrange to pick you up from either Las Vegas or Phoenix airports if you plan to drive ithome. If you do fly in please plan on a Sunday afternoon arrival, I am off Sunday and Monday, so Monday you can replace the hoses and belts and do an oil changebefore hitting the road.
