Buick Grand National 1987 Description
1987 Buick Grand National for Sale. One owner. purchased several months after placing a factory order at Goodman Buick. Littleton . Colorado. Took delivery in March 1987. Now as I reach old age. (74) I think it is time to sell. As a graduate and registered professional engineer I have enjoyed the technology of its engine and drive-line and showing the car at club and local events. It is fun to drive and best exemplifies the Buick GN slogan “. go fast with class. ” Over the years I have made several improvements and tasteful modifications but never detracted from the original inherent beauty and style of the car. Of course. the car has always been garaged and “babied. driven on weekend trips. and not used to commute to work. Primarily a hobby car with only approximately 16. 00 miles on it. The original Golden Eagle factory tires are still on the car; a most unusual situation for Grand Nationals offered for sale. Both the unused factory spare and a full size spare tire are included. The odometer indicates less that 12. 00 miles but a speedometer cable reducer adapter was installed some years ago that allowed the optional factory digital dash to correctly read speeds up to 140 mph when set to Km (metric speeds). That now translates to about 16. 00 miles. This modification is documented in the vehicle records and was at about 5. 00 miles. Many GN’s go for sale but this one is truly a lower mileage car. never subjected to adverse weather or abuse (racing). I have other vehicles to consummate my “need for speed. ” Accompanying this Grand National are a number of pertinent documents and records: * Copy of the original factory build sheet. * All original sales documents and receipts * Service records since day one. * Receipts for most relevant purchases since car was new. * Complete Buick Factory Service Manual. * Several factory service procedures reprints. * Several files (about 3 inches total thickness!) full of Buick GN literature including a rare 1987 dealers sales folder. Includes GN. * 1987 Buick customer sales brochure. Includes GN. * A number of Buick GN aftermarket parts catalogs. * A few spare parts. * Complete air conditioning charging equipment. Instructions. extra Freon. and charging gages and lines. Of importance to the prospective buyer is that I had the car professionally repainted early in its life. The original factory paint was historically of poor quality. The Buick plant was in the process of being shut down after this model year; not to reopen…you can imagine what went on…or not! The paint job was. in part. for building the paint shop owner a hi- performance 454 engine for his Corvette ( labor only )…. so why not do it. The paint was also clear coated and some tastefully pin stripping was applied. Reference pictures. as shown. as part of this listing. Some factory options. and there are numerous listed on the included “build sheet”: Actually the car was ordered with most factory options except T-tops. Approx. $2. 00. 00 above the Grand National option of $3574. 00. Some options are: * Bose sound system and upgraded AM-FM Equalizer/Stereo radio with cassette player and power antenna. *Body side molding. * Digital dash. * Limited slip differential * Electric rear window defroster. * Power windows * Halogen lights. * Tilt steering Upgrades and performance enhancements: * State of Colorado “legal” window tinting. * Keene Bell Ram air induction system. * Keene Bell GN specific computer chip. * ATR style improved intercooler air induction system. * Turbo pressure and oil temperature gauges. Reference photos. * Owner installed alcohol/water spray enhanced intercooler cooling system. dash switch controlled. * Dash switch to manually over-ride factory auxiliary radiator fan automatic operation. * Polyurethane bushings installed on the HD front anti-sway bar. * Aftermarket GN special floor mats. also covered with clear vinyl floor mats for added protection. * Chrome plated turbo housing and intercooler down pipe. * Mallory hi-temp. ignition wire sleeve. This protects the ignition wires from under hood temperatures typical of turbocharged cars. * New battery with 5 year warranty - about 4&1/2 years remaining. Of Note: Normal maintenance such as oil. filter change and lubrication approx. every 2500 miles. as documented on the complete maintenance records. In addition. all body. door. and suspension rubber seals. bumpers. and mounts. etc. have been treated to rubber preservative on a regular basis. They are as soft and pliable and as they were new. No rust on the body…anywhere. Nor should there be. Also the car was undercoated at the dealer before I took possession. Car is garaged in my purpose built “automotive garage” and shop that has a built-in “pit. ” The prospective buyer can fully inspect the under chassis and all suspension and driveline components quite easily. Please do not hesitate to send me your questions or call to discuss. This beautiful car is well known by me and I thought I would keep it for all my life…but that is not practical now. I have previously built several turbocharged hi-performance vehicles and can discuss a number of technically related subjects. I also have two built up Corvette L-82 engines complete on stands for sale. Each one with only approx. 3. 00 miles. Both from my 1955 Chevrolet show car. One engine is Holly Carb’ed. The other is fuel injected with complete system. Seller encourages prospective buyers to examine the vehicle in person. AutoCheck Rated "41" on the last eBay listing a week ago. Quite a high score.
