Buick Other 1947 Description
Viewing the History Channel the other evening a program featuring the history and evolution of the automobile eventually transitioned intodiscussing General Motors designer Harley Earl's prototype Buick the "Y-Job" constructed in 1938. What struck me when seeing the car was its striking and remarkable similarity to our 1947 Super Eight with specific regards to fender styling instrument cluster and dash layout. Apparently as was later mentioned styling cues from this 1938 gorgeous prototype carried well over into the 1940's and early 1950's series sedans coupes and convertibles. You may wish to Google it.The Super Eight you now see herein originated out of New Hampshire its owners having maintained it for well over 40 years prior to my wife and I acquiring it. Shortly before our purchase the couple had the 248 cubic inch inline eight cylinder rebuilt (now bored .030 over) and replaced the clutch assembly. The receipts were provided to us and come with the car. The Fireball Dynaflash Super Eight engine hasn't accrued more than 200 miles since rebuild and is still breaking in. We drive itoccasionally to Hemmings Cruise nights or for a short sojourn to Coffee and Cars events parades etc. It runs fabulous and starts immediately at the depress of the gas pedal. Its paint in a two stage Canterbury blue was applied many years ago appears quite nicely from 20 feet but is brittle and cracked in areas such as fender seams and edges. Its age and condition tells its own story over the decades and is a very "Retro Cruiser" charming in it own right and condition. There are random scratches and scrapes with small dent to the right rear fender skirt and aft of the right front wheel at the beginning of the rocker panel. The body overall is very solid with one previous metal repair to the bottom of the spare tire well. All else appears very solid complete and original.Incredibly the Buick's interior is in magnificent condition. With the exception of the drivers door window and wing window which has a crack all the glass and channels are in very nice condition and roll up and down nicely. All the lights and gaugesfunction with the exception of the fuel gauge(sender?) and temperature gauge. A remote temperature degree specific gauge wasadded and is located discreetlyunder the right front dash for monitoring.Tires are 15 inch radials on steel wheels with original late 1950's front spinner hubcaps and refurbished Buick hubcaps to the rear wheels. (the spinners interfere with the aft skirts). In conclusion this is and exceptionally fun car to drive very unique in itsarchitecture and design which garners a significantamount of attention when on the road. It will be sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. I furthermore encourage personal inspection or by a qualified representative of your choosing. I will not allow inspection as a condition of sale following the auction end.I also reserve the right to end the auction early giventhe Buick is for sale locally and on other venues internationally. Last.... please do not ask what my reserve is. Respectfully this is an auction and to do so would be unfair to other bidders. As a helpful hint my reserve is based on and is nicely affordably and reasonably lower than the published values in NADA Old Cars Report Price Guide and Hagerty Valuations. You may wish to consult these values prior to bidding or making a "reasonable" offer to ascertain whether it fits into your budget.
