Buick Riviera 1968 Description
A true Benchmark Level unrestored Riviera Gran Sport!I purchased this Gran Sport (GS) Riviera from its original owner in Globe, rizona (where it was sold new and lived its entire life) in April, 011. It is one of the best preserved, ntouched, eticulously maintained original and unrestored cars you will ever see. It has never been detailed, ainted, amaged, r had a paint gun aimed at it since it left GM in 1967. It is 100% numbers matching and 100% original paint, nterior, op, hrome, tc. With just 54,000 original miles and having been treated like a family member since new it has only required normal maintenance.
To find a '68 Riviera in this condition is one thing, ut to find one of the 5,337 Gran Sports built is truly difficult, et alone one in near showroom unrestored condition. The GS package included the 430 CID engine with 360 HP and 475 ft/lb of torque, lus a 3.42 posi rear end, hrome lower rocker moldings, chrome air cleaner, ower front disc brakes and the bucket seats with center console.
This loaded, ne-owner car comes with a stack of original paperwork as pictured. This isn't a UFO, t is a fully documented, eal-deal, riginal paint, nrestored Riviera GS.
While it literally ran and drove like new upon my purchase, have gone through the car from end to end. I replaced the original T3 headlamps with new halogen ones, nd put the originals in boxes for safe keeping. The original spark plug wires were replaced with a new set, nd also saved. The original radiator hoses were removed and bagged and come with the car (yes, have both the original plug wires and original hoses!) The original carburetor was restored and properly jetted for Ethanol fuel by Custom Rebuilt Carburetors of NJ. For reliable operation a Pertronix III electronic ignition conversion and Pertronix III coil were installed, nd the car tuned to perfection. All fluids were changed, he tires are brand new BFG Radial T/A Redline tires from Coker Tire, nd every mechanical system has been tested to insure it works as new. Even the original 8 Track player works flawlessly! I also installed a Redi-Rad iPod/MP3 input into the stock radio so you can stream your favorite playlist right through the factory Buick stereo. The car simply drives like a dream. Driven gently it is a true luxury car. Driven with a heavy foot, t is a GS to the core with a satisfying tire chirp on the 1-2 shift and that famous Buick torque shoving you firmly into the seat. The body is simply flawless with zero rust or corrosion anywhere. There is no undercoating or other such “coverups” underneath, t is exactly as it left GM and spotlessly clean and dry. Most of the original exhaust is still on the car but the original mufflers have been replaced. The wheels are the factory original ones, pecific to the GS, s are the center caps and even the lug nuts. The interior and trunk are mint. The original Inca Silver Mist paint is in excellent condition, ut, s a GM lacquer metallic paint car that lived its whole life in Arizona the top surfaces have gained a matte finish. It would probably buff out to a high shine again but I didn’t want to remove any of the original paint knowing how thin it is to begin with.
This is one car that must be seen, nd driven, o be believed. It is an incredibly special car in all respects. The photos don't do it justice, n person the car has a presence that is undeniable, nd when you sail past people on the freeway at 85mph in effortless luxury they can't deny this cars presence either. It would be very difficult, f not impossible, o ever duplicate this car. I have never seen a better unrestored Riviera GS and neither have any of the Riviera Club members who have inspected this car and know it well. Clearly it is not the cheapest GS on the market but I welcome any inspection so you can verify it is indeed the best.
Thanks for looking.
