1973

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this very rare numbers matching 1973 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Pace Car Edition in nice driver condition. There were only 566 Eldorado Pace Cars ever made so this model is very scarce. This particular Eldorado, ar #33471, s listed in the official CLC #24 Authenticity Manual as an official Pace Car replica from the factory. The car is very correct and original and features the Pace Car decals as well as the original Pace Car dash plaque. The prices of all the vintage Cadillac have skyrocketed in recent times, this is especially true for the convertible models and even more so for the rare examples like this Pace Car. This Cadillac is absolutely priced to sell and definitely one of the best deals for a 1973 Eldorado convertible anywhere on the market right now. It is finished in the very attractive color combination of Cotillion White(11) over Red Leather(488) with a white top(A), hich is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, ictured below. This is also the correct color scheme for the Pace Car Edition Eldorado. Please peruse all of the photos, ideo, nd information below to get a true sense of this Cadillac.

Please note that this Cadillac is "numbers matching." That means that all of codes and stamping are original and correct for the car. In terms of value this is a very important factor and will become more vital in the years to come as the car gets older. Most importantly the engine is original to the car. The last six digits of the VIN, 33471, are stamped on the engine block and pictured below indicating that this is the original engine that was installed in the car brand new at the factory. The transmission is also numbers matching with the last 6 digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below. The transmission is coded "73-AJ," which is correct for 1973. This Eldorado rolled off the assembly line during the fourth week of March 1973 (03D). All of the trim, aint, nd convertible top color codes are also correct for this car and correct for a 1973 Eldorado Pace Car Edition.

As a side note, his Cadillac is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our cars come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. model description

1973 was the 5th year that Cadillac was chosen as pace car fort he greatest spectacle in motorsports. It was also only the second time ever that a front-wheel drive car was leading the pack of race cars down the start lap; the first front-wheel drive pace car was a 1930 Cord driven by E.L. Cord himself. A total of 566 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado Convertible Pace Cars were built, ll identified by option number SR-X20. They were all finished in Cotillion White, ith White convertible tops and Medium Red (Scarlet) Sierra Grain Leather interiors. Of those, wo "Official" Pace Cars built, with one of them being a spare in case something happened to prevent the actual car from being used. Both had specially modified engines that would allow the production Eldorado Convertible to reach the high speeds necessary to lead the powerful race cars. The modifications included removing the emissions control equipment and installing a new crankshaft. Specially forged pistons were used, nd a low restriction dual exhaust system was fitted, s were special high speed tires. The 564 cars that were not modified for high speed use are considered "replica" cars, nd had a special plaque (pictured below on this car) that was mounted on the instrument panel to the left of the clock identifying the cars as replicas. The plaques featured a back and white checkered crossed flag insignia at the top, nd stated in red script below, quot; This Eldorado Convertible is a limited edition replica of the 1973 Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Car." There were a total of 53 Eldorado Convertibles built for Indianapolis 500 Festival duty, ll of which were delivered to the track and used in the Festival events preceding the race. The remaining 513 replica cars were delivered to Cadillac Dealers around the country to be used as promotional tools, nd were usually later sold to customers. Graphics were not installed onto the car by the factory and reports indicate that most owners did not choose to have the graphics attached to the car.

vehicle condition

Exterior

The Cotillion White exterior is in nice driver condition. The paint has a smooth finish, ice gloss, nd deep shine. The Pace Car Edition decals are in fantastic condition with no fading or wrinkles. The chrome, tainless, nd other bright work shows well overall. The convertible top is in nice shape overall and is not dirty or soiled; there is a spot of wear on the edge by the left rear window. The top has not shrunken and fits the car well. The convertible top mechanism in this year Cadillac is notoriously problematic. However, n this Eldorado the power function of the top works well; one can see the top being raised and lowered in the video below. The rear window is still the correct glass, t has not been replaced with a cheaper plastic window. This Cadillac also features a hard "parade boot" for the convertible top. This Cadillac still retains its original hubcaps, hich are in good condition with a nice finish. The white letter tires appear to have about 90% tread left. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some small blemishes visible in the photos and some others around the car that were too faint to show up in the photos, ut nothing that really stands out from about five to ten feet away. I am sure that the car has had some rust repair in the past in the typical areas. We have taken specific photos of the lower quarters, ockers, nd other areas on the car most prone to rust. We purchased this car from a gentleman in Florida and the frame is completely solid with no rust issues.

Interior

The Scarlet Red Sierra Grain Leather interior in this Cadillac is in great condition. The front seats are in excellent condition with no rips, r split seams. The rear seats appear to be original and are also in nice condition. The carpet appears to have been recently replaced and is in terrific shape with no holes or stains. The gauges still look crisp with no rust and the lens is clear. The wood grain inside the car looks wonderful with no delamination or peeling. The chrome and other bright work inside the car is in very nice shape. The dash is in good condition overall with no sun fading, ut does have a few spots of wear on the edge. All of the the door panels and arm pads are in nice shape with only one crack on the passenger side, hich is an extremely common problem on these Cadillacs. The 6-way power seat works in all directions. The car still retains its original 8-track radio, hich actually works as one can see in the video. Most importantly, he dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The power antenna works, ut only goes up about a foot. Inside the trunk looks great and is nicely finished. The car still retains the spare tire and jack. Please note that both seat belts operate and retract properly. This is a very common problem and something most buyers do not think to check. The Cadillac interiors from this era are not known to wear well, specially for convertibles, nd the nice condition of this interior is a testament to the care this car has received over the years.

Mechanical

This Cadillac seems to be in good mechanical condition. The car starts every time and idles well. It drives nice and feels good on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, hifting through all the gears, raking to stoplight, nd going through some curves. Please note that there are no stage noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. The brakes are responsive and do no pull to one side or the other. The car floats down the road. As with many older carbureted cars, his Cadillac is quite cold-blooded. Also, he engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, wipers, ower windows, nd gauges. The power locks do not works. The right front window needs a hand going up and down at the tops of its travel. The a/c system was recently serviced and one can observe the a/c compressor engaging properly and turning on in the video below. However, he climate controls has been a little temperamental recently, ut works most of the time . Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, specially with the top down out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

This Cadillac looks great and is a nice driver. It is verified as numbers matching, hich is very important now and will become more vital as the car ages and appreciates in value. This Eldorado is exceptionally rare being only one of 566 and is highly prized in the Cadillac community. Special edition models like this Pace Car always hold a high premium over their standard counterparts. This Cadillac turns head and gets A TON of attention everywhere it goes. It also has one of the lowest asking prices anywhere on the market for a usable 1973 Pace Car Eldorado convertible. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a very rare car. Convertible Cadillacs make excellent cars to drive. One could enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than your purchase price. We, as always, ould encourage you to take the time to view the car in person if possible. We have nothing to hide, hat is why we include so many photos.

Thank you for looking and please email or call with any questions.
