Cadillac Fleetwood 1936 Description
1936 Cadillac Series 75 Fleetwood Convertible Sedan. This Cadillac is an original Southern California Car and isfeatured in the color section of Hendry's book on Cadillac.“The Standard of the World” wasn’t just a slogan for Cadillac: it was a quality demonstrated in every car off the line. And nowhere is this more evident than in the exquisite 1936 Series 75 Fleetwood Convertible Sedan. For 1936, Cadillac debuted an all-new L-head 346 CI V-8 engine making 135 horsepower. Coupled to a three-speed selective synchromesh transmission, the new engine offered unprecedented power and smoothness, befitting its status as the Series 75 flagship. Surrounding that mono-block engine was custom bodywork by Fleetwood, which had been absorbed by General Motors in 1931. The prestigious “Body by Fleetwood” label was applied to any of 10 body styles selected by the buyer. This particular Series 75 sports the five-passenger Convertible Sedan body, riding on a 138-inch wheelbase. A narrower radiator shell, revised louver grille, creased front fenders and tasteful chrome accents demonstrated the kind of style for which Fleetwood had always been known. Just 3,327 Series 75 cars were produced in 1936, possibly because their high prices limited their appeal in the Depression era: the Convertible Sedan body style would have originally sold for $3,395.
