Cadillac Brougham 1988 Description
1888 Cadillac Brougham vintage 2 owner mint Classic American GEM
Drive around in luxury and comfort that simply does not exist anymore in automobiles. The all leather bench seats make you feel like you are sitting lounging on your sofa, barefooted in your underwear. All the chicks will be standing on the corner waving you down for just one ride. “Honey, take me for a spin.” I catch more attention in this Cadillac, than I do my 78 Bandit Trans Am. When you start her up, her dash lights up “Level Ride” Ole Betsy uses regular gas in her V 8 engine, and gets very good gas mileage, because she was born before pollution control sole it.
This is probably the safest vehicle ever made. She is made of real metal with stamina and class. This is a fine example of Classic American Motors. The cruise control works fine and I usually have her set on 70MPH on most highways. About 5 years ago I was driving home from a business trip to Little Rock, driving over a river bridge, when a big fat 10 point buck deer jumped in front of me at the bottom of the bridge. He was in the process of trying to jump over old Betsy and almost made it. I clipped him with the right front 2 headlights. The deer hooked and rolled over in the ditch, then left the scene, immediately. The entire Header Panel (the very front of the car where the grill and all 4 headlights are mounted) was crumpled and both right headlights were busted. I purchased a new header on EBAY cheap. Parts are easy to find. This model Cadillac is built like a tank. All metal reinforcement bars protect the radiator, so there were absolutely no leaks at all. I had Zigler body shop give her several coats of everlasting polyurethane white paint.
Last summer during a driving rain on LA Hwy 34, some dude did not have his metal rod cattle cage strapped down in the large bed of his pickup truck. This time the cruise was set on 60MPH because of the standing water in the road. The idiot was right in front of me when the cage just came flip flopping out. I am an excellent driver, but this time there was no time to react, because a Harley Davidson Motor Cycle had pulled over to the side, because of the rain. I made the choice and crashed into the metal cage at 60MPH. The metal cage caught the left front of Ole Betsy and rolled up over the top, very noisily. Nobody knows how scared I was, except for the laundry man. I guess my time was not up, and my heavenly host of guardian angels protected me, because there are still a few scratches on the right side of the hood and by the door.
The motor, transmission, interior and exterior are in mint condition. Except for a regular oil change, there has never been a wrench on her. The air conditioner compressor and dryer expired at the end of last summer and you will need to replace them, along with their fan belts.
I saw the Vintage Cadillac sitting in a bank parking lot in Bossier City 10 years ago. I saw the for sale sign and called the owner who came to meet me there. He said he was a retired Senior Master First Sargent at Barksdale Air Force Base when he purchased the car new in Shreveport in 1988. He said he basically drove the USAF Blue Staff Car, and only used the Cadillac to go to Vegas gambling. He said he kept her in the garage and I keep her in a carport. When I brought her the odometer said 30,000 miles. Over the past 10 years I have put over 70,000 miles on her, because the odometer says 10779. These are basically highway miles because I have driven her to Oregon twice and Indiana maybe 20 times. I also use her to drive to our job sites all over America. I paid SMSGT Paul Harvey $10,000 cash, then asked him how to put the top down. He said that you can’t. The car looks like a convertible, but they can’t cut a hole in the top with a pocket knife and it don’t rattle.
