Cadillac DeVille 1956 Description
Up for your consideration is my 1956 Sedan de Ville. This is a fine and very well-optioned example of the first year of an iconic Cadillac model that was a top seller for a half century. First the body: As I mentioned in the condition description it is so rust/bondo free that it holds even a weak magnet at all parts of the body. The only traces of rust are tiny stains in the usual spots. very insignificant. The paint was originally Princess Green. The doorjambs. sills. trunk and engine bay are still this color and original. The body's outer surface has been painted the similarly shaded but metallic Emerald Green. also a 1956 Cadillac color. The paintjob is a twenty-footer. with a decent shine but not factory quality. One could go back to original color without standard color-change cost because no work would be needed where the original paint is still extant. As is it's still very presentable because the two colors are close. The dings are minor save for a cluster of them on the end of the left fender that is shown in a couple of photos. The original white top has minor blemishes but shines like a factory paintjob should. The interior is. I believe. all original. If you are tired of otherwise decent interiors diminished by a worn-out driver's seat you will like this one. Apart from some fading of the fabric. shown very clearly in the photos. the front seat is just as pristine as the back. The cloth and leather are both in excellent condition. as is the carpet. The headliner and dash pad are almost like new. The Bumpers are the closest the car has to a weak spot. A few scuffs and scratches have accumulated over the years. with surface corrosion starting in the worst of them. at the right end of the front bumper on the bottom. Still the chrome and stainless trim on this car is good overall for the age of the vehicle. also original. The chassis is quite good with only minor surface rust in places. No rot. Glass is very good; no cracks. The windshield has the usual minor pits of a car that has been driven. Mechanical: The previous owner rebuilt the transmission and installed a full dual stainless steel exhaust system including resonators. The car is smooth and quiet. The engine was replaced at some point with a 1960 390 Cadillac engine. with a newer carb. It runs smooth and strong but can be a bit cold-blooded. very typical of Cadillac engines. It has new plugs and wires. It leaks a small amount of oil (Pan gasket?) but seems to use none. The car has several options. The power windows were standard on de Villes of course. but the car is loaded with other items that were not. The Autronic Eye Headlight Dimmer works but sometimes too well. as it often dims for billboards as well as approaching headlights. The trunk release works well but the pulldown usually needs some wiggling to get it to come up and grab the trunk latch. My understanding is that it was the first year for that option and this little glitch is common in these early units. I've always gotten it to work and never had to leave the trunk unlatched. The original wonderbar radio works fine after a brief warm-up. The power antenna was replaced by a manual one (it extends very high) by the time the car was repainted. but I will include two power antenna cores with the sale. if one wishes to switch back. It also has a factory right side mirror. for this year usually only seen in Fleetwood Sixty Specials. The Air Conditioner blows ice cold but is wired to blow on high only. It cools that big interior down quickly. even on the hottest days. Also somewhat rare are the factory fog lights. They work well and are quite bright. I have always garaged this car. and it has never been driven in salt by me. I believe that no previous owners have driven it in salt either. nbsp;going by the evidence of its condition. A very good historic Cadillac. and a fun and functional driver. A $500 deposit is required from the winner within 48 hours of auction end. with the full balance due within 7 days. Wire transfer. cashiers check/money order. or cash in person are acceptable. Serious buyers Call Frank at 641-684-7298 with any questions. I will answer all messages.
