When the words "Camaro" and "resto-mod" meet, a good time is pretty much guaranteed. Throw in almost 500 horsepower and buttery blue-on-black aesthetics, and you end up with a tire-melting, conversation-starting muscle car that everyone will stop to look at. This sweet F1 is a complete, road ready cruiser that features choice Chevrolet Performance power, a stout Tremec 5-speed and a professional restoration that's been sorted over 393 miles of easy living. If you're a buyer who seeks absolute authenticity, we can certainly accommodate you. But, if you're one of the growing number of enthusiasts who wants to actually enjoy the performance, look, and value of Chevrolet's beloved pony car, this '68 panther is your opportunity to turn someone else's toil into your new pastime!
BODYWORK/TRIM
The beneficiary of a professional, ground-up restoration that was completed by Exton, Pennsylvania's Bulldog Rod & Custom, this slick Chevy wears a solid body that was stripped bare, fitted with lengthened rockers, augmented with lengthened fenders and capped with stretched quarters. That clean profile looks killer dressed in PPG-supplied BMW LeMans Blue 2-stage. And, despite its heavily customized appearance, the car's trim and ornamentation remain a stylish mix of familiar attributes. Up front, a Charcoal grille hangs traditional headlights above a tweaked valance that founds 1969 Rally Sport-style parking lamps above a custom chin spoiler. Behind that grille, a shaved header leads the eye to a familiar ZL2 hood, which fronts tinted glass that's founded on a tweaked cowl, caged in Charcoal frames and cleared by RainGear wipers. At the sides of that glass, fifth-generation Camaro mirrors reflect seamless fender extensions, color-keyed drip rails and a fully shaved profile. And at the back of the car, a shaved and filled valance hangs Charcoal taillights between a custom fuel filler, a custom deck spoiler and a custom, split bumper.
ENGINE
Gaze upon this coupe's body-matched engine bay and you'll find 6.2 liters of small block fury! Officially known as the Chevrolet Performance LS376/480, that $8,438 crate engine twists respectable 10.7 to 1 compression into 495 horsepower and 473 lb./ft. of torque. At the top of the block, a remote Spectre filter feeds a polished Spectre tube, which funnels wind in to a proven GM throttle body that fronts a color-keyed GM intake. That air meets spark in rectangular-port L92-style heads, which ride under body-matched coil covers. A nodular crank, powdered connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons compress that volatile union. A racing-inspired LS Hot Cam maximizes intake efficiency through better breathing. Speaking of breathing, that smooth valvetrain funnels spent gases through Hedman Hedders shorties. There's a massive Auto Rad radiator that's slid between a conservative cowl and two puller fans. March Pro-Track serpentine components spin a polished alternator opposite a polished AC compressor. And, as you likely deduced from our high-resolution photos, the all-aluminum mill rolls in a smoothed, BMW LeMans Blue frame that's finished with dressed fluid lines, Delco plug wires and a chrome Wilwood master cylinder.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Park this panther on a lift and you'll find a clean undercarriage that, like the car's polished body, benefits from substantial modification. Dressed in a QuickTime bellhousing and billet flywheel, the car's tough Tremec TKO600 5-speed twists power to a 9-inch axle that's fitted with big, 3.70 gears. Under that pumpkin, a Heidts Pro-G independent suspension seats modern coil-over-shocks opposite Detroit Speed mini tubs. That back-half pushes a Chris Alston's Chassisworks front-clip, which balances power rack-and-pinion steering between two more modern coil-overs. At the corners of that suspension, 6-piston Wilwood calipers squeeze 14-inch Wilwood discs thanks to proven Hydratech hydraulics. Charred dinosaurs traverse 2.5-inch Cressman pipes, which position an H-shaped crossover in front of aggressive Magnaflow mufflers. Power meets the pavement through Painted Schott Velocities, which spin 245/40ZR18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports in front of 295/35ZR20 Michelin Pilot Super Sports. And the car's solid, body-matched floors frame niceties like braided fluid lines, sturdy subframe connectors and a fresh fuel tank that's equipped with an electronic pump.
INTERIOR
Open this Chevy's tight-fitting doors and you'll find a highly customized interior that wraps 21st century style in a nice blend of comfort and convenience. Firm Corbeau buckets feature custom leather covers. In front of those bolstered thrones, a body-matched dash hangs direct-fit audio beneath pushbutton start, blue-lit Dakota Digital VHX telemetry and Vintage Air Gen IV climate control. At the base of that dash, a tastefully modified console centers a small power mirror toggle behind a booted Long shifter. Beneath that island, plush carpet floats piped mats around Boston Acoustics speakers and small tweeters. At the edges of that matting, 2-tone door panels bridge the gap between power windows and billet handles. In front of the driver, a Billet Specialties steering wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a fully upholstered trunk frames a big Sound Ordnance amplifier.
