Chevrolet S-10 1987 Description
87 Chevy S10 Short Bed Pickup. 110,000 original miles.2.5 liter 4-cylinder, 4-speed manual transmission. No power anything. No A/C.
Things that are wrong or need attention:
Windows are off track and won't roll up or down.
Exhaust has a leak up close to the engine, may be "Donut" gasket on manifold. Tail pipe is missing from the muffler back.
2.5 "Iron Duke" engine is noisy. The fiber cam gear wears and at idle it sounds like a diesel. These engines are legendary for the amount of noise they make, especially at idle. Google it up. The Pontiac Fiero bulletin boards cover it pretty well. The way I understand it is that a new cam gear will stop the noise for about 30,000 miles, at which point it will start to make noise again. Talk to your mechanic about it. I bought this with the idea of putting a 5.3 LS engine out of a wrecked Yukon in it, but I wound up trading the Yukon for a Suzuki Samurai and now I am going to build the Samurai instead.
Has a pretty good collection of dings and dents. The previous owner kept it in a shed and loved on it a lot, but put several dents in it. He kept it touched up and worked on some of the dents, but he was not a pro and all the work is visible. Having said that, about 85% of the paint on the truck, including almost all of the inside of the bed, is factory paint. You can still feel the last wax job, and he waxed the inside of the bed, too.
Almost no rust. One small spot about 1 1/4 inches in diameter in the very rear corner of the drivers side bed floor, and some surface rust coming up on the tops of both front fender well openings that are not rusted through.
The wheels are in pretty good shape, but the tires are dry rotted and will need replacing at some point. They are still in balance and run down the road smooth, but they are getting old.
Starts, runs and drives just great. No missing or stuttering, the engine goes quiet at road speed, transmission shifts out smooth and quiet, all the running gear is excellent, steers straight and steering is tight, doesn't drift when you let go of the wheel. Good brakes, but the one on the passenger side rear is a little grabby when you brake hard, drum may be rusty from sitting.
Interior is pretty nice, the pictures tell that pretty well.
Pictures have a tendency to make things look better than they are, but this old truck looks pretty good, even close up.
Ready to be used as a transportation/work truck, or a very nice body for a motor swap. Jump in and go pretty much anywhere you want. Might want to fix those windows first, though!
Clean title in my name, in hand.
