Yes… the caption is correct. 1945. You want to talk rare? Here you go. Beautiful 1945 Chevrolet heavy half ton pickup (115” wheelbase).
So here is the story…
In 1945; civilians were not able to purchase a new vehicle. All the parts and materials necessary to build new vehicleswere going to the war effort. In order for a civilian topurchase a new vehicle in 1945; they would need to obtaina ‘Certificate of War Necessity’. In order to get thatcertificate; the person would need to be a business owner,and be able to prove that a vehicle was necessary toIn early 1945; a farmer in Bowling Green, hio applied fora Certificate of War Necessity, ecause he needed a newtruck to sustain his farm. The government approved thecertificate, nd in July 1945; this truck was built at the GMplant in Norwood, hio, nd then sold to the farmer.Only about 200 of these trucks were built in 1945, ecausemost of the requests for certificates were denied. sustain their business.
This rare truck recently completed a 5-year, ut and boltrestoration. There are only 121 miles on the truck sincethe restoration was completed, nd is all original withnumbers matching motor and transmission.This truck runs and drives perfectly. The motor starts rightup with no problems. No signs of smoke from the tailpipe. The transmission shifts just like it should.The interior is brand new. The wood-plank bed iscompletely redone and beautiful.
There are simply noissues with this truck.Also included is a rare 1945 Chevy truck brochure which is2 sided and gives a lot of drawings and info on the truck. Itis about 16”x 22” when open. One of the paragraphs fromit reads “For 1945 Chevrolet has been authorized to buildlight delivery pickup trucks on a 115 inch wheelbasechassis which will be offered by Chevrolet dealers toqualified essential users”. Also included are a shopmanual for 1942-1948 Passenger cars & 1942-1946Trucks, 2009 edition of Chevs of the 40’s magazine, nda photo album filled with pictures of the restoration.
I alsohave a freshly painted spare tire rack which mounts underthe truck, nd 4 original wheels with tires.
