Chevrolet Other 1922 Description
Up for auction is a very nice Chevrolet 490 Touring car that was restored in the early 1970's. My Father did the tear down, cleaning and re-assembly however the paint and body work, upholstery, and engine rebuilding were done by professionals. The top upholstery and body paint date to the original restoration. In the early 1990's the wheels were re-spoked and re-painted. The seat upholstery was also replaced with leather at this time. Receipts and correspondence regarding all the work done were kept and are in a folder that goes with the car. I know the cars history as far back as 1956 when it was sold to a local dealership for $250 by a young man from Delaware. The original correspondence between the two parties has survived and was laminated to preserve it. Pictures of these documents can provided upon request as I have not included them in the listing. Also many good spare parts are included in the sale, engine parts, axles, transmissions(3), radiator, one wheel, etc. I can also send pictures of these parts to anyone who wants to see them. The car runs, drives and stops very well. The engine does not knock, smoke or burn oil. The valves were replaced with high quality Egge Machine Stainless steel ones since I've had the car. I also replaced the leather clutch lining with a well made one from a fellow Vintage Chevrolet Club of America member. The speedometer does not work due to an issue with the cable. The generator does not work either, though it was rebuilt in the 1990's. I think the issue with it is minor, my Father once said it quit working when he oiled it too much but I cannot say for sure why it doesn't work. The axle shafts in the rear end were made by a skilled machinist out of modern alloy steel, they are not original vintage parts. Also the pot metal housing between the generator and the distributor has been replaced with a quality aluminum one. These two issues are common problems with Chevrolet's of this era. This car has always been very reliable, and is in sound mechanical condition. Have a look at the pictures and ask any questions you may have. Texts and telephone calls are welcome. 337-453-6172.
