Chevrolet Chevelle 1970 Description

This auction is for a 1970 Chevelle Malibu. This was a lifelong California car that still wears the original ‘Blue’ license plate it came with when registered new. I have a clean California title in my name. I bought this car in 2010 While living in the Los Angeles area. I looked at many Chevelles, eeking a rust free example to restore, efore I bought this one. I shipped the car back east when I moved in 2012 and this Chevelle has been sitting in a dry garage, overed and off the ground, ince then. I started it this winter and changed the oil, aster cylinder and brake fluid. I hate to sell it, ut I have a couple of other older muscle cars and need to free up some room in the garage. I also hate to see it sit but I just simply haven’t had the time to drive or build it the way I wanted. I purchased it with the intention of putting a 427 Big Block I have in it and doing a frame on build. Prior to moving I drove the car all over southern California and it was a dependable and comfortable driver and never overheated, ven in 100 degree temps. It even has an obnoxious old school alarm that works well. With a little work, his will be a great driver or the perfect starting point for a high end build for a LSX or big block swap. I will also consider a trade plus cash on my end for a ZL1 Camaro (6 speed only)

The body on this car is excellent considering its age. It was one of the best unrepaired bodies I saw and I looked at a lot of cars. It was an older amateur cosmetic restoration when I bought it. PLEASE VIEW ALL PICS AND DESCRIPTION. As I was driving the car regularly, replaced the following:

Tie rods, rag link

Power steering box shaft seals

Master Cylinder

Coil, ap, otor

New Tires (Cooper Cobras)

Voltage regulator

Rubber fuel lines

Belts

Headlight switch

Please see the detailed description below for more info.

Engine

The engine is a mid-seventies 350 4 barrel. I was told it was rebuilt in the nineties but I don’t have any receipts to prove it. It runs strong with no knocking or smoke. It has HEI ignition and a rebuilt Edelbrock 750 with Electric Choke that works great. The oil pan looks like it has had a small leak for years as it is covered in gunk. I have only seen a little oil spot which looks like it is from the front oil pan seal. It also has a minor dent (someone tried to jack it up wrong?) but hasn’t affect oil delivery. If using this engine I would plan on regasketing it but otherwise it is a good, trong running engine. Sounds like theremay be a minorexhaust manifold leak. It may need valve seals eventually as I have never done them and the car was sitting before I bought it.I never got around to it as I was going to pull the engine it and sell it. Like I said in the description, t has been very dependable and cruises great at 80 mph on the highway.

Transmission

Trans is a TH350. It has always shifted tight and strong with no slipping. If sitting for a long time it will leak all the fluid out, ut won’t if it is driven regularly. I pulled the pan, eplaced the gasket, nd changed the dipstick seal. It still leaks when sitting, hich I have been told is a common issue with TH350’s. It is not leaking from the front pump seal as I inspected that. Again, would reseal the transmission, ut never got around to it as I drove the car regularly and it was never an issue. My plan was to reuse the transmission with the big block a just replace all the seals.

Interior

The interior was redone at one time and is very nice. The carpet, eats and headliner are mint and the carpet is very veryvnice. The seats have no rips or fading and have the correct emblems. The door panels look nice but are a little wrinkled (see pics). The dash pad is cracked but I have another nice one with no cracks but it needs to be dyed black. There is no radio. The steering wheel is nice but it looks like it is from another year Chevelle. The gauge cluster glass has some sort of paint/staining on it which I couldn’t remove. It has a tilt steering column. It has all seat belts and they are all in good shape including the roof mounted shoulder belts. The door panels were screwed in on the bottom. Not sure if this is factory.

Body

The body is very nice and a perfect starting point for a high end build. The paint looks like an older lacquer job but shines nice. The paint on the trunk is peeled (see pics). The quarters are rot free and straight and have never been repaired as are the doors, runk lid, ockers, tc. No ugly door dings or dents. The trunk, loors, rame are exceptional as are all welded seams. Not even surface rust or any signs of past pitting. Car has all the original brake and fuel lines, nd every bolt I have removed off this car has come off easily. The car is also super straight and the doors open and close perfect. The only rust on the car is the lower fenders (They had leaves jammed in there for years which caused the rust) One fender bottom was repaired in the past and the other shows some bubbling. Around the back window there is some rust and someone sealed around the window with silicon. It doesn’t look bad and may not even be rusted through in any areas, ut I would pull the back window and take care of it before paint.

NOTE: Many of pics I provided are of the car right before it got picked up for transport (thus the magnetic sticker on the door. When the car was in my garage I backed into the headlight bezel with an ATV and put a small dent in it (See pics). Otherwise the car looks the same. It was hard to photograph the car in the garage so I used many of these pics to better show how nice it is. Like I said, shipped it from Cali and it went right into storage.

Suspension/Brakes/Rear End

All stock with 4 wheel power drum brakes. Some new parts as listed above. Rear is a stock ten bolt with highway gears. Cruises great and drives straight. Power steering works great and is tight. Just replaced the master cylinder this winter, hich is why some of the pics show the old master.

Tires/Wheels

Car has stock 15 inch rally wheels mounted on Cooper Cobras with less than 1000 miles on them. Trim rings are stock GM. Not sure of the width of the wheels. The center derby caps are plastic (not sure if they are GM) but still look good. I have steel GM center caps that can be purchased separately.

The Bad:

Engine has minor oil leak (see engine description above)

Transmission leaks when sitting (see transmission description above)

Factory AC car but missing compressor/evaporator/hoses/engine brackets. I planned on installing a vintage air system.

Horn doesn’t work

Reverse lights don’t work

Drivers window goes up and down fine but needs alignment. It have some play so it may need a bushing or roller to tighten it up.

Not sure if heater works, ever had to use it.

I also have a rebuilt 427 that I will include with the car for an additional $2000 IF AND ONLY IF the car sells for my reserve price or higher. Otherwise, am going to keep the 427 and put it in another car I have. It is a 1968 385hp version out of an Impala SS. It was built and installed in a 55 Chevy hotrod. I bought it off of a trusted mechanic/gearhead friend of mine when a customer of his wanted it replaced with a fuel injected small block and overdrive auto since the 55 Chevy handled terrible with the heavy big block. I haven’t heard it run but I was told it runs great. I have pulled the intake and valve covers and it looks new inside. It has the “Turkey popper” freeze plugs installed by machine shops on rebuilt engines. The 750 Edelbrock carb on the car was from this engine. I WILL NOT SELL THE ENGINE SEPERATELY AND WILL ONLY INCLUDE IT FOR AN ADDITIONAL $2000 IF THE CAR SELLS FOR THE RESERVE.

If the Chevelle doesn’t sell for my reserve I will likely just keep the car until I get around to installing the big block and building it the way I planned. This is great, ard to find example, f a rust free California Chevelle. I looked at many “Rust Free California Cars” before buying this one and this was one of the best ones I inspected. Although it has rust in the fenders and around the rear window as described above it is about as good as you are going to get without paying a lot more. I am very picky about my vehicles and have been restoring cars for years. I have tried to describe this Chevelle the best I can but please ask any questions before bidding. I would also encourage, f possible, nyone to come and inspect it themselves. My reserve price is about what I have into the car..not including my labor. Buyer is responsible for shipping but I will help load it on an auto transport. Please feel free to call me at 508 951-2932 or email me through Ebay with any questions. I reserve the right to cancel bids from bidders with little or no feedback. If you have little or know feedback please give me a call or send me an email. I just don't want to get stuck with the listing fees if a buyer flakes out. THANKS FOR LOOKING!! - AL

There is no warranty expressed or implied and bidder should ask any and all questions PRIOR to bidding.I will take and send you any photosof areas you want to see. I have described this car to the best of my recollection, ut like any human I may have forget something. I would encourage any potential buyers to come look at it in person or send someone to inspect it prior to purchase.

UPDATE 3/13: Hello everyone. I have had numerous prospective bidders ask what the reserve price is or whether there is a Buy It Now price. Rather than put some ridiculously high Buy It Now price like most people do, plan on just letting the auction run. I will say the reserve is very close to the starting bid. Thanks for looking!! Al
