Chevrolet Other Pickups 1960 Description
RUST RUST RUST, a great example of what the mid west winters can do to a vehicle. The bed is unusable, and the frame has rust in places as well. I would say the body is unusable. This is a true Apache K10, 4 owner, very original vehicle. Not a 60 body on a late frame. It runs and drives, but is rusted to hell. I wanted to restore this truck, but it is beyond my realm. Its sitting in Mt Vernon, Illinois, at my Fathers house. It has been there for nearly 30 years. I installed an entire new brake system, aluminum radiator, clutch slave cylinder and lines, etc. Planned to ship it to my home in Sacramento, but I just don't have a place to do the work.
It was purchased new by a US Postal Delivery Man in Central Illinois in 1960, to use on his mail route, when he was finished with it, my Cousin bought it, used it for a hunting truck and then he died suddenly, my Brother ended up with it.
I did drive it after all the recent work, but the transfer case is stuck, and not sure if the lock outs function. The generator is not charging and I did not have time to trouble shoot it while I was home getting it running. It starts right up, no smoke, and I think the vacuum advance is stuck in the distributor. No real shocker there. Also, I know the bolt in the front of the crank is broken off, as the lower crank pulley is loose, and you can see whats remaining of the bolt.
These trucks are rare. Sorry this one is so bad. I hate to see it leave our family, but it has to go. The title is clean, has the original radio in it, the stickers are there, instructing how to operate the 4WD system. Just a cool truck. e-mail with questions.
Not going to end the auction early, or any of that funny stuff. I will have a few more photos soon. My Dad is taking them tomorrow. He is 74 and a little bit slow in getting around these days.
Also, you of course will need to ship, or trailer it home.
