Start talking muscle cars and the second generation Chevelle is almost always directly referenced. Offered in trim levels ranging from stripped economy champ to luxury pavement pounder, Chevrolet produced Chevelles that were capable of satisfying nearly every buyer and every wallet. That legacy of universal appeal has continued throughout the last 50 years, giving fans and aficionados the parts and inspiration to create their own unique hot rods. Take this '71 Super Sport for example. Updated with top notch drivetrain and interior components during a detailed restoration, this tastefully modified Chevy turns a traditionally appealing platform into an off-the-charts super star. If you're ready to hit the streets in a fresh, head-turning muscle car, check out this stunning resto-mod!

BODYWORK/TRIM

The beneficiary of a ground-up, rotisserie restoration that, despite a bit of age, turns heads wherever it goes, this slick A-Body wears glossy Spies Hecker 2-stage that reflects Jaguar Dark Blue Metallic pigment. Naturally, that pigment is dressed in bright white Super Sport stripes, which blend well with the car's clean top. Under those contrasting aesthetics, solid sheetmetal exhibits tight panel fitment. And presently, this drop-top rolls as one high quality cruiser that's primed for Main Street!

An innately attractive road warrior that's been converted into one of the sickest rides around via choice customization, this red-hot Chevy is a picturesque classic that's sure to be the center of great memories. At the front of its body, a black Super Sport grille hangs familiar "CHEVELLE" and "SS" emblems between a guarded bumper, clear parking lamps and modern halogen headlights. At the top of that grille, a functional cowl induction hood founds factory lanyards in front of clean glass, polished stainless and color-keyed sport mirrors. At the sides of that hood, a sculpted profile floats traditional door handles above straight fender lips and dent-free rocker guards. And at the back of the car, a second guarded bumper centers round taillights and a second "SS" emblem between a classy "Chevelle" script and bright exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Gaze upon this Chevelle's Satin Black engine bay and you'll find 396 cubic inches of massaged Chevrolet big block that, according to the car's current owner, was built by an employee of Holman & Moody. At the front of that balanced and blueprinted mill, polished cold air induction utilizes high quality Spectre filtration to feed oxygen to a bowtie-branded Ram Jet intake. That oxygen marries fuel supplied by braided hoses and billet rails, which are monitored by a small Auto Gage pressure gauge. That air/fuel mixture combusts under Brodix aluminum heads, which hang stainless-trimmed valve covers over a hot Comp cam and coated Sanderson headers. At the back of those heads, reliable MSD ignition sequences spark between an MSD Blaster GM coil and sleeved Taylor Spiro Pro plug wires. In front of those wires, a proven March serpentine system spins a small alternator opposite a coated AC compressor. In front of those components, a Champion aluminum radiator makes good use of dual SPAL puller fans. And everything, from the car's billet breather and Optima gel cell battery to its billet fluid reservoirs and fresh M&H wiring, appears professionally installed and thoughtfully detailed.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

What good would a killer engine be without a tough drivetrain and solid suspension to back it up? Behind the car's thundering 396, a 6-speed, paddle-shifted auto twists torque to a 9-inch, Currie-branded axle. That road-ready drivetrain rolls on a fully rebuilt double A-arm/4-link chassis, which sandwiches Edelbrock shocks and a full suite of Global West control arms between Hotchkis links and heavy duty sway bars. That chassis rests thanks to two power-assisted GM calipers, two power-assisted SSBC calipers and a quartet of vented rotors. Modern power steering greatly improves drivability. Spent gases escape through 3-inch, aluminized exhaust, which traps long Flowmaster mufflers between an H-shaped crossover and polished stainless tips. At the corners, traditional Super Sport Wheels twist G70-15 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sports around blue-trimmed bowties. And everything, from the car's undercoated floors and finned fuel filter to its braided fluid lines and stainless fuel tank, is on mark, set and ready to go.

INTERIOR

Naturally, this neo Super Sport's comfortable interior is a masterful blend of both form and function. Modern, leather-wrapped buckets are restoration-fresh attire that, along with factory door panels, present clean and crisp. Between those seats, a factory console balances a factory horseshoe shifter behind aftermarket accessory gauges. Below that console, rich carpet floats monochromatic, bowtie-branded floor mats under custom, Sony-equipped kick panels. At the front of that carpet, a familiar Super Sport dash frames a multi-function Pioneer head unit and controls for modern air conditioning beside optional deluxe telemetry. In front of the driver, a sweet, "SS" branded steering wheel spins a thick rim around a tilting column and hardware for the car's paddle-shifted transmission. And behind the passengers, a restoration-fresh trunk seats a full-size spare tire between an Orion amp and JL Audio subwoofer.

With its impressive motor, solid body and airy interior, this killer resto-mod is an attractive, well-done muscle car. And best of all, being a late second generation Chevelle, its likeness isn't nearly as prevalent as Chevy's more famous, and too often duplicated, '66-'70 offerings. If you're in the market for a no excuses classic with an unbeatable combination of style and performance, this Chevy is your kind of car!
