Chevrolet Impala 1963 Description
I purchased this vehicle from the second owner in June 2014 through a retired salesman who advertized it for him. and placed it on a car lot in Minnesota. He bought this car in 1965. and owned it for 49 years. I spoke with him on the phone. he explained the car was original. In 1980 he had any and all rust cut out and replaced with new panels. From what he remembers. a new trunk pan. lower rear quarters and some rocker panel work done and still looks good. Around that time the convertible top was replaced and looks very nice. The car is also undercoated. Carburetor was rebuilt. He also said that the mileage of 74. 87 is actual mileage. He did not drive the car much after restoration. and eventually stored it for many years. When I drove the car a 167 miles home. I noticed that it had burned over a quart of oil. I had no choice but to have it repaired. I took the car to Auto Value Machinists-Duluth Miller Mall with 74. 87 miles on the car. They explained that they only repair engines by going completely through everything. When engine was completely disassembled. they discovered that some of the cylinder rings were frozen to the pistons. which caused the engine to burn oil. A master engine kit by Federal Mogul was ordered which is one of the best engine parts suppliers. Engine block was degreased boiled and magnifluxed. cylinder heads were also tank boiled and checked. Cylinders were bored and honed . 030 over. Also cylinder heads. intake manifold. exhaust manifold were all resurfaced. New pistons installed. and also piston rods resized. crankshaft polished. Hardened valves and seats were installed along with new rocker arms and valve springs. new valve guides and upgraded valve seals. All new bearings and upgraded camshaft. (this was recommended for better engine performance. slightly more valve lift and duration) After assembly engine block was pressure tested. Spin on oil filter conversion kit installed. Pertronix electronic ignition was to be installed. but this requires a full 12 volt wire. and I did not want to disconnect the original resister wires. so I stayed with the new points and upgraded to a higher out put coil. After draining the break in oil. it was suggested I use 10W40 Valvoline oil. No synthetic for 1500 miles. Also installed new starter motor. fuel pump. K&N air cleaner. High output ignition coil. dual exhaust which sound great. all new brake cylinders. all new brake shoes. new front brake hoses. new front wheel bearings and races. New fan belt and a new extra one. Changed transmission fluid and filter. All vehicle fluids have been changed. This is a very clean 1963 Impala convertible. every thing works as it should. The interior and body look very nice as does the convertible top and boot cover. The original clock and A. M. radio still work. a knob under radio fades the front speaker to rear speaker. Looking at the pictures. the bumpers. grill and chrome on the car look great considering the age of the car. Small right rear quarter panel below chrome strip has a slight wave in body work. Some chips under rocker panels. but not noticeable unless looking under the vehicle. Driver side seat cushion has a small separation in the seam. about 1-1/2 inch. only noticeable when pulling on it. Small tear in thin material insde the car that covers convertible pad on driver side. I consider this all minor. This car still turns heads and looks fine for a car show. Original paint. except where repairs were done but still looks very nice. If you want a nice convertible that you can drive. enjoy and not worry about a bug chip on a $20. 00 paint job. then maybe this is the one. With all the work and money that has been put in this vehicle it can be driven any where. I expected to keep this car. but do to recent health issues. and the fact we need to move to a one level home. I have to sell. I will never come close to recovering the money I have spent on this vehicle. but with classic cars. some times things just don’t work out. I am listing this car at a very reasonable price as one can only ask so much. One of the best buys on Ebay I think. I will not be responsible for my personal description of this vehicle. Personal inspections and questions are welcome. Vehicle is to be sold in “as is” condition with no warrantees. Sale of vehicle is final with no returns.
