Chevrolet Other Pickups 1972 Description
For sale - One 1972 Chevy C30. 350 v8 engine with 4 speed manual transmission. This truck was a project of mine during the winter of 2013/14. Like most of my projects, t was put to use before all the little details were finished. I'll list the good and the unfinished in detail.
The good -
- Engine starts easy and has good power. Holds good oil pressure and runs cool.
- 4 speed works excellent and clutch is good
- Brakes work properly
- All four rear tires are new and fronts are 90%
- New sheet metal - drivers door, oth rocker panels, oth cab corners, nd passenger floorpan.
- Flatbed is all new steel with a new 2x6 wood deck treated with lindseed oil. I fabricated the bed myself in my shop. Flatbed measures 14' in length plus a 32" dovetail and is 86" wide.
- Truck GVW is 14,000
- New leaf springs plus new helper springs.
- Many new small parts, ncluding cab marker lights, urn signal and side marker lenses, eater control cables, eater switch, weatherstripping, ash pad, tc.
- Paint was new in December 2013 and is holding up great
- Odometer shows 94,692 miles. Speedometer works.
- Alternator charges and all factory gauges in the dash work.
- Carburetor has been freshly overhauled. Distrubutor is new and is 12v HEI.
The Bad/Unfinished
- Engine uses quite a bit of oil. Does not visibly smoke except on startup. Works fine for local runs but I'd overhaul it if I intended to regularly take long trips.
- Power steering works, ut leaks quickly. I don't mind manual steering and I generally do not bother to add fluid.
- Exhaust is new headers and glasspacks. Its loud. Cool if you like that, nnoying if you don't.
- RF wheel has one lugnut stud with boogered threads. RR wheel has one broken stud.
- Left hand turn signal works when it wants to. All other lights seem to work.
- Body work is amature at best. I did it, nd I'm no body man. Looks good from 30', p close you won't be impressed. Hood had a dent in the front and the body filler I applied has a crack. Paint actually laid down nice and would look pretty good if it were applied to better body work.
- Air fan switch should have a knob, ut its missing. Switch is new but I forgot to order the knob from LMC.
- Drivers headlight ring has some rust on the chrome.
- Never tried the E-brake. Brake light is on in the dash, ut brakes seem to work great for a '72 Chevy.
- Drivers side floor pan was patched by a previous owner. It keeps the weather out, ut its is not the best job.
- Clutch return spring is weak. Clutch works great but pedal does not return to its proper height without assistance.
- No radio. Came that way in 1972.
Its a cool old truck that needs some finishing touches. It will actually haul the loads pictured and I used it regularly. Truck fires right up and is ready to work. 3" thick by 12" wide by 8' long Oak bridge plank ramps included - they're heavy. Clean title in my name.
