The market for second generation Corvettes just keeps getting hotter. And while the trend may have started with big block cars, heir small block siblings are beginning to command equally serious money. As with all Corvettes, he key to value is authenticity. And, rom its original 327 cubic inch L79 V8 to its correct Maroon over Saddle color combination, his well restored Sting Ray stays true to its roots in almost every way. If you're in the market for an impressive C2 that looks good, rives great and can hold it own on the show field, hey don't get much better than this!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Bolted together at GM's storied St. Louis manufacturing facility in the summer of 1967, his slick Vette is the kind of classic that you can look at and virtually sense top-notch caretaking. Recently, he car benefitted from a detailed, round-up restoration that began with its solid fuselage being lovingly sanded. Once that profile was super smooth, oors and lids were adjusted to better-than-factory fit. And finally, orrect GM code 988 Marlboro Maroon base was fitted with a Saddle top, ealed in glossy clear and buffed to the kind of stellar shine that ardently accentuates Bill Mitchell's razor-sharp style lines.
ENGINE
Tilt this Corvette's lightweight hood and you'll find an original, 27 cubic inch L79 V8 that hangs a familiar 3892657 casting number behind a correct "HT" suffix stamp and matching partial VIN. Introduced as a formidable companion for street prowling Sting Rays, his high performance small block twists factory-stated 10 to 1 compression into 350 factory-rated horses. At the top of the spry mill, polished air cleaner funnels wind into a correct Holley carburetor that's threaded onto fresh stainless fuel lines. Below that juice box, familiar Winters intake perfectly complements finned Corvette valve covers. At the back of that intake, hrome-cased ignition shoots spark past correct exhaust manifolds via chrome-sleeved plug wires. And at the front of those manifolds, Harrison-branded radiator cycles coolant through pliable GM hoses and authentic tower clamps. Whoever performed the restoration on this Corvette did an excellent job of creating an attractive, eliable engine bay that's every bit as detailed as the rest of the car. Bright Chevy Orange paint covers the block from its clean oil pan all the way to its polished oil filler and, s always, ooks great against GM's Satin Black bay. As expected, orrect textures and decals are present and accounted for. And details like a rebuilt Delco alternator, correct Harrison overflow tank and a big Delco battery ensure this Chevy runs every bit as good as it looks.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Flip this Vette upside down and you'll find a solid, o-hit chassis that's in good shape, nd today, ooks much nicer than when it rolled off the showroom floor. Behind the 327, rugged M21 Muncie makes good use of a correct posi-traction axle. At the ends of the car, fully sorted double A-arm front and independent rear suspension is completely detailed down to its fresh shocks, orrect springs and standard manual steering. Above that rebuilt suspension, olid floor tubs, hich look factory fresh in every way, ide on a straight, atin Black frame. At the corners of those floors, tandard disc brakes mix good handling characteristics with quick and solid stops. At the edges of those brakes, lean Chevy Rally wheels twist 205/75R15 Cooper Trendsetter SE whitewalls around dent-free beauty rings and short center caps. And everything, rom this Corvette's stainless fluid lines to its chambered, hielded and polished side pipes, s fully sorted and ready to roll!
INTERIOR
Open this Chevy's tossable doors and you'll find a correct Saddle interior that's a nice assimilation of clean and weather-free components. Seating comes courtesy of firm vinyl thrones that are framed in straight stainless trim. From the driver's perch, tock gauges bleed onto their bordering panels in a march toward an aluminum-trimmed glove box, modern Antique Automobile Radio and a small chrome shifter. Below that shifter, equisite mats and predictable stainless sills protect like-new carpet. Above those sills, tainless-trimmed door panels hang traditional armrests among small handles, rank windows and stylish chrome accents. In front of the driver, satin-spoke steering wheel laps a brilliant cross-flag emblem. And behind the passengers, carpeted storage compartment boasts just enough room for trophies and a display board.
