Chevrolet C-10 1976 Description
1976 Chevrolet C-10 Custom Deluxe Short Wide Bed. Light lime green with untouched original paint. This truck was purchased by Plainville KS USD 270 in at Herb Lungren Chevrolet in Hays, S in 1976. It remained its school truck for many years. We purchased the truck from an individual who never got around to restoring it.
It has a 250 ci straight in-line 6, ith an original 3 speed in the floor. It has no options except gauges and a dome light.
We spent a year off and on going through this truck. The engine is untouched internally and runs great with new plugs, ap, otor, uel pump and fuel filter. New battery and cables. Painted valve covers and air breather. All decals replaced. Original exhaust still retaining catalytic converter. Replaced rubber fuel filler neck.
Western Chassis 2.5" drop spindles and 4" hangers and shackles. Only dropped 2" in rear. New Brakes and rotors. Totally rebuilt front end with new ball joints, ie rod ends and idler arms. 4 new 23575R15 tires mounted and balanced on 8" Chevy rally wheels painted Chevy engine orange.
New Hurst Indy shifter and white H knob.
Gutted the interior and replaced everything. All rust in floor patched withlicensetags and Pella window sealer tape. New full rubber floormat extending all the way under the seat and over fuel tank humps. Replaced rubber pedal covers. Metal gun racks installed with sliding back window for maximum ventilation. Custom drink holder made from 1976 KS license tag.
Very nice dash (couple of cracks) door panels and cloth seat. Dash and Door panels were painted with SEM Camel plastic paint. New plasticgaugebezel. AM/FM Cassette with new LMC stereo dash speakers and new 4X10 speakers behind seat in factory Chevy brackets.
Graphics were painted on using vinyl stencils and International Harvester tractor paint. We went with "PlainJaneVille Auto Shop" and '76 Rooks County tag number isreplicatedon the fenders as the phone number. Graphics could be easily removed or changed.
We added the wooden bed made from scrap pallets. It sits on a 1"X 2" frame that just sits in the bed. Adds a nice touch to the look of the truck.
While this truck has "No Power Nothin'", t runs and drives great. With patina shop trucks from 1967-72 and earlier commanding $15-20K this truck is a super coolalternative. Frankly, his truck runs and drives better than its older counterparts. The rare mint green paint and contrasting orange wheels make this a real head-turner. You will hear "cool truck" every time you drive it.
See it run here and a nice review of the inside and out of the truck https://youtu.be/zL2TKmRCneU
I have had 10 of these "Square Chevys" and this one is one of my favorites.
This is not a GMC Sierra, cottsdale or Silverado
