Chevrolet Other Pickups 1946 Description
Wonderfully stock, riginal, ust free (other than two small spots), omplete, nmolested, icely patina'd, esert Southwest example of a 1946 Chevrolet 3100 Deluxe half ton short bed pickup truck. This is a very low VIN truck (1034). Postwar production started in May 1946 (E code in VIN) with 1001 and this one is number 34... wow! I'm selling it for a friend of mine whose elderly husband passed away from cancer. He left behind a collection and I'm helping her ensure they find good homes. This one was a member of their family for over 38 years. The body is in really good shape. There are no signs of accident history anywhere. The minor rust is at the very lowest point of the front cab corners (see pics). It was a design flaw in the cab where muck gathered and had no place to go... easily fixable stuff (or just leave it if you live in a dry climate; you can't tell unless you look closely under the fenders). It has an ancient respray in red over the original green cab and black fenders. The way it has patina'd over the years really looks nice. The original wood floor is still in the bed and in surprisingly good condition as seen from below. It was covered years ago by a metal sheet which can be easily removed.
The interior has aged well other than the upholstery (seat frames and springs are in good shape). Glass is good (with some windshield delamination; thankfully it's flat glass) and doors open and close solidly. All buttons, nobs and switches are still in place other than the lever to open the windshield. Dash is in excellent condition with no cutting or butchery of any kind. Wipers and and gauges work but lights do not.
It runs and drives but the original 216cid Stovebolt Six has low compression in 3 cylinders. Gas is currently fed by a makeshift tank in the engine compartment. I may install a new fuel pump by auction end. Shift linkage is sloppy but it shifts smoothly and clutch works great. Brakes work and show no signs of leakage however they need to be pumped twice prior to driving. And it steers nicely although front tires are showing cracks.
I hope this truck ends up in the hands of a vintage Chevrolet aficionado who desires a great, riginal, nmolested, irtually rust free desert truck as the basis for his next project. It's too stock and complete to be anything but restored or turned into a wonderfully patina'd regular driver. And the early VIN can only add to its value. Just my two cents.
