Its VIN number is VC57J11208.
The odometer reads 46357 miles---this is probably 146357 miles.
It was “restored” in 1998-1999 and driven less than 1000 miles before the owner passed on. A new garage was built for it and it has been lovingly stored until present. Registration has been maintained and the car has been started and run regularly. The family has decided to find their tri-5 a good new home.
The 1998-99 restoration consisted of the installation of a fresh 307 cubic inch small block equipped with a high rise intake manifold and Edelbrock carburetor as well as tubular exhaust headers. I believe a higher performance camshaft was installed---runs pretty strong and smooth for a 307.
A heavy duty clutch and a Borg Warner 4SPD transmission were also added.
HD front and rear sway bars new rear springs along with HD radial shocks were installed.
The front end was repaired as necessary---drives great.
A complete new interior was done. A new headliner—door panels—rear seat re-upholstered—front bucket seats—new sound deadener and carpeting along with seat belts.
A new rear bumper and all accessory chrome pieces were added. All other chrome is in good to excellent condition.
This is a solid car; the body does not appear to have excessive rust anywhere. Unfortunately the body was not well prepped prior to the 1998 paint job. The photos show this. A proper body prep and paint job would turn this “good” looking 57 into a beautiful reliable collector car.
We have elected not to replace the 80s looking ET wheels and the aging tires. They have good tread but are old and have weather checking. We felt the new owner could best select tires and wheels to their liking. The tires have flat spotted to some extent from the prolonged storage; hence some vibration is present at speeds above 50mph.
Upon removal from storage in 2015 the fuel tank was cleaned a new fuel pump and all rubber fuel lines were installed
All 4 wheel cylinders were rebuilt and new brake linings installed.
Both mufflers were replaced with stock quiet ones and the tail pipes were replaced.
The carburetor was professionally rebuilt.
Vehicle was serviced and thoroughly inspected for road worthiness. It is driven locally regularly.
We are making every effort to accurately and honestly describe the vehicle in this written information as well as in the photos so in that vein we will state all known deficiencies. The horn and fuel gauge do not work—the radio speakers are bad after the long storage---the speedometer reads 50mph at a real 57mph.
Is everything perfect NO but it’s pretty darned good for a 58 year 1957 Chevy!! It is being offered at a very fair reserve price and could be a perfect car to just drive or upgrade to beautiful 57 collector.
Good luck bidding.
