Chevrolet C-10 1961 Description
1961 Chevrolet C-10 Apache Pick up. PROJECT
This is a 1961 apache 10 pick-up. Frame off restoration started and about 80% complete.
The hard work is done. This truck is from Kentucky. We purchased this truck about 3 years ago as a driver, fter receiving the truck, e decided to start a frame off resto.
The body is all steel with minimal bondo. New door skins, nstalled properly. New front fenders, nd cab corners. New inner and outer rocker panels. The cab was removed from the body and floors replaced and coated with bed liner both inside and out. The old fleetside bed was too far gone, step side box was purchased as a replacement. The front grille support was replaced with an original from Arizona. The doors skins, enders and rockers were from LMC truck. The body was painted two tone tropical turquoise and India ivory. (1957 Chevy colors) When the body was bolted back on all new bushings and bolts were used. The bed has 1939 ford Coupe tail lights. The bed itself is quarter sawn read oak, ut here at a local mill. (not a typical online bed wood kit) new bed stripes between each board painted body color, ll hardware and bolts are stainless. The inside of the bed wall are line in stainless steel diamond plate, he tail gate latch is on the inside the gate. There is no rear bumper, roll pan was added to the box (it was like this when we bought the box) the front bumper is chrome and a re-pro from LMC truck. The front hood ornament is in great shape (rare) it took us a while and some $$ to find one.
The interior is complete. The complete dash and cluster and gauges were taken apart and rebuilt/painted and cleaned. The carpet is brand new charcoal color, he seat was reupholstered in marine grade vinyl by a local shop here in town. The fuel tank inside the cab was replace with an original unit that was flushed and cleaned before installation. Any knobs on the dash were sourced and replaced. The radio is missing and the dash was cut up, nd aluminum plate was fabricated to cover the radio hole. The wiring harness was replaced (American Autowire). Seat belts are not installed yet, ut are included. The visors are there, ut need to be recovered, e have the extra material.
The frame was stripped completely when the body was off and epoxy primed, nd coated in POR-15 chassis paint. The rear axle was drained and re-sealed and 90 weight oil was put back on the rear gears are in great shape I believe is a 3.40 ratio. The rear drums were turned, nd all brake shoes, heel cylinders, ardware, lips, ubber hoses, nd steel lines were replaced. New fuel and brake lines were run from front to rear. Brackets were made out of angle iron to mount the box. The front torsion bar suspension was removed (complete front cross-member) and replaced with a 1979 c10 heavy duty cross-member and suspension. The truck now has HD front disc brakes, ith power steering. The master cylinder was upgraded to a dual reservoir power brake with booster, custom bracket was fabricated to bolt this on to the fire wall in the proper location. The steering shaft needs to be completed, ll there but needs to be linked.
The motor was a strong running (5.7 350ci) motor when we purchased the truck. We took the opportunity while it was out to re-seal and freshen it up with new gaskets and paint. The heads show a code for 327 heads from 1964. It has an Edlebrock carb, nd a steel intake, new distributor and ignition box was purchased. All of the accessories on the front of the motor are new. The radiator is a champion 4 core aluminum style. The motor mounts are perch style purchased from CPP. The motor is in place but has not been started. It will need to be plumbed are wired. The transmission came with the truck is a power-glide and seemed to function fine when we purchased it, e did not do any work to it. This truck is in great shape, nd with a little mechanical know how, t can be finished fairly quickly.
We have been working on this for about 3 years and have had a changes in life that have not let us work on it for the past 6-8 months. It is time to let someone else finish it.
The sale of this truck is final, ot warranty has been expressed, ritten or state. Come look at the truck and be certain this is the project for you.
