Chevrolet El Camino 1968 Description
You already know we love the El Camino and its ideal combination of performance good looks and practicality and this 1968 Chevrolet El Camino offers all of that and more. For starters it's got a numbers-matching V8 drivetrain plus factory A/C an awesome color combination and a very reasonable sticker price.Looking through our records we haven't sold many '68's and that suggests that they're a bit more rare than the other years. For many enthusiasts the '68's pure design has a clean chiseled look and this one is no exception. The paint was done last year and it was changed from gray to bright red and the choice was a good one. Finish quality is quite good with a deep shine that could probably even be taken up a notch with a professional color sand and buff but even as it sits it'll stand out at the local cruise night. We always like the honesty of a car that wears factory sheetmetal and this one even offers a stock flat hood and no SS stripes so it's a pretty good representation of what you may have seen on the streets back in the day. The chrome bumpers are in good shape the original emblems were reinstalled when the paint was dry and the bed was treated to a very tidy bedliner so it's ready to work or play and looks great doing either one.The black vinyl interior is also pretty stock complete with a bench seat that makes the Elky a 3-passenger vehicle. From behind the wheel it's the same experience as a Chevelle with an attractive 3-spoke steering wheel and big legible gauges in a wrap-around instrument panel. You'll note that this one wears new seat covers with textured seating surfaces and silver accents that helps break up the ocean of black inside. It also offers crisply detailed door panels recent rubber mat (this was a truck after all) and options like factory A/C which is fully functional thanks to R134a refrigerant inside. It also offers the original AM radio which also works properly and there's an FM unit neatly stashed under the dash so you're not limited to whatever they're playing on AM these days. With a bit of storage behind the seat this Elky is actually usable daily and it drives so well you'll never complain about the ride. The 307 cubic inch V8 is this car's original numbers-matching engine that was rebuilt and upgraded with things like an aftermarket aluminum intake manifold and 4-barrel carburetor and electronic ignition system. It's still very much Chevrolet under the hood with satin black inner fenders and a bright Chevy Orange block with a set of chrome valve covers and an open-element air cleaner to spruce things up a bit. It starts easily and idles well and with good V8 torque it's easy to drive. The 2-speed PowerGlide automatic transmission is also original equipment and there's a 10-bolt rear with highway-friendly gears out back so it's pleasant on the highway with the A/C cranking away. A nice-sounding dual exhaust system has just the right V8 sound and the underside is shockingly clean suggesting someone put in a lot of time and effort here. The front end has been rebuilt so it tracks straight and feels tight and it wears fresh Rally wheels with flat hubcaps trim rings and big 215/70/15 white-letter radials all around.Documented with maintenance records owner's manual and some title papers this is a very affordable El Camino with a good pedigree and a great look.
