Additional info found as my husband was going through paperwork - there was a frame crack repair about 20-25 years ago, river's side just in back of front bracket for front leaf spring attachment. Crack welded and support plate welded to frame. This was not due to any impact/accident as vehicle has never been in a crash. There have been no problems since the repair was completed. The steering is solid; suspension and alignment are excellent.
