Chevrolet Other Pickups 1949 Description
I have decided to sell my show truck. It is a nearly original 1949 Chevrolet 1/2 ton truck. model number is a 3100. It has a 216 inline 6 engine with a 3 speed column shift transmission. It still has the original wood bed and 2 spare tires(1 new, 1 original). Truck has roughly 58K miles on it. Odometer works but speedometer needle is gone. All gauges, brakes, parking brake, horn, lights, etc work as they are supposed to. Only has single original tail light as produced when new. Truck body was produced at the Kansas City plant in early 1949. Seat was recovered in the 80's with reproduction original style seat cover. Head gasket, thermostat and gasket, oil filter hoses, brake hoses, Heater Thermostat control and other parts have been replaced with Jim Carter or Chev's of the 40's parts to remain in show condition. I use Napa gold filter elements, and run 30 or 15w40 oil. Gear oils get changed annually, engine oil seasonally. Engine gets tuneup per original shop manual every spring. Has original 1 year only W-1 Carter carb. It was rebuilt using Carb King carb kit. I am the 3rd owner of the truck. The truck was purchased in Alma Ks when new. It is forrester Green. The truck was owned by the Winkler family of McFarland KS. I purchased it from the nephew of the original owner. The truck was used for supply runs and to head to church which I believe is the reason for the low mileage. It has a clear Kansas title in my name.Tires are in good shape with a little weather cracking and lots of tread left. Wheels are original 6 bolt one piece rims with replacement correct style hubcaps. Brakes are decent, parking brake works well. Shifter box is in good shape. Clutch is firm. Bodywork is in very good shape. there is one small rust spot on the passenger side front fender where the brace meets the outer fender, otherwise truck is very clean. truck was resprayed (same color) by the local Chevrolet dealer in the early 50's. All doors and vents work and open and close smoothly as they should. Radiator and heater core were cleaned and tested by Cheaver's radiator in Olathe ks. Truck has accesory fresh air heater with thermostat. Wipers work as designed. Truck also has original extra rear leaf springs installed, and single action knee shocks all the way around. Hand Crank in picture does not go with the truck. I use it on the tree others that I have for setting timing and adjusting valves as needed. Reproductions are available at Jim Carter's in Independence Mo, or at Chev's of the 40's in the pacific Northwest. Both have internet sites. Memorabilia also in pictures does not go with the truck. in this auction you get this truck with clean Kansas Title, and the original Owner's manual with Alan Winkler's name written on the outside cover. This truck really is a time capsule for the late 40's early 50's and I bought it for a show piece 8 years ago. my wife and I have recently had 2 children, and I have 3 other 1949 trucks, as well as numerous old tractors, so it is time to thin the collection. I can deliver it to Kansas City, Manhattan, Emporia, or similar area for no charge(I will drive it there), or you are welcome to pick it up near my home.
