Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1952 Description

This listing is for a 1952 Chevrolet Belair 2-door hardtop car. It is in "project" state, as it is not running. Due to health problems, we had to stop working on it before we got it running, but it should not take much work to get it to that point. This car has had the "bright work" done, i.e., trim has been straightened &polished. It had a new interior installed several years ago, but there has been absolutely NO wear & tear on that interior, as the car has not been driven since that was done. The interior color is a medium tan or brown (some people call it tan; others call it brown). It is actually a bit darker than shown in the pictures; our camera made it look a bit lighter than the actual color. The exterior of the car is a unique specialty color; we call it "bronze"; others may call it brown or O/D. It is a basic brown or O/D color with goldflake in it. Very unique & hard to describe; it seems to change as the sun hits it. The top is beige. Paint touchup is needed - please see the pictures. You will note that in some of our pictures the car has black-wall tires, & in others it has white walls; it does have the white walls on it.

Following is a list of things we have done to this car, plus a list of things that we had planned to do, or suggest the new owner might want to do.

'52 Belair Hardtop:

This car was acquired in 2001 to be built as a prototype for our Show car. It came from another “high desert” area in south central Washington State. When we purchased the car it was a half-finished project car. It had been painted, the chrome work had been done, and the stainless trim straightened & polished.

Having examined the car while working on it these past years,we have found this car to be virtually rust free. It may have been in a minor accident at some time in the past, as one of the front bumper guards was bent. We chose to replace it with an NOS one rather than straighten it. Some of the problems it had were immediately identified and others were discovered as time passed.

These were problems we encountered:

Paint flaking, deteriorated wiring, old interior, & rusty wheels with bad tires.

Here is what we have done:

Replaced the low rider wheels and tires with Diamond Back 205/70R15 whitewalls (2011) mounted on 15 x 7 chrome wheels with centers painted to match body color, and original style hubcaps (2001).

Had the interior redone (2008) using automotive fabric (including the trunk). New carpet has been installed, and I repainted all the interior trim. We also replaced the heat control knobs, garnish molding screws, sill plates and polished the stainless trim.

Replaced the entire front suspension (2011) with one that is completely rebuilt, including the installation of dropped spindle towers & arms to lower the frontend (these Chevies notoriously set high in the front).

Rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the fuel pump, installed new belts & hoses, gave it a tune-up, serviced the radiator, replaced the entire exhaust system and detailed the engine & engine compartment. The Powerglide transmission & converter received a complete rebuild (2008).

Replaced the windshield, windshield & backglass seals, and tail light assemblies.

In addition, we are in the process of converting to a 12 volt electrical system including a new forward wiring harness.

This is what we are planning to do in the near future:

Install a new glove box, install horn ring & parts, have the frontend aligned & brakes rebled, install the rearview mirror, have carpet reinstalled (removed for the transmission repair), install a new accelerator pedal and anew heater valve.

Here is what we think needs to be done:

The paint must be repaired. About five years ago it cracked on the hood and around the trunk lid. The paint is nowabout 15 years old and we see no additional flaking, so itwould seem the paint is stable. Probably the bad areasoccurred due to improper surface preparation. There is some oxidation on the trunk lid. It is possible the bad spots can be painted and blended in, but it might be difficult to match the paint. It appears to be a special mix metallic with a light misting of gold metalflake. Probably a complete overcoat would be the best approach. Following the paint repair the lower trunk seal and door seals can be installed. We have the seals.

If the balance in full is not received by the due date, the sale will be considered null and void; and the seller will have the right to relist the vehicle as soon as they wish. The $1,000.00 deposit will NOT be refunded; therefore, any questions should be addressed prior to the close of the auction to prevent any misunderstanding.
