Authentic Fully Restored Powerfully Optioned Collectible

Chevrolet described the 1966 Chevelle SS 396 as a "No-Compromise Road Machine" and that is exactly what this beauty is.

Are you Ready to Own a Real Classic Chevy Muscle Car?
Here is Your chance!
This Authentic Numbers Matching L34 360hp 4-Speed SS 396 is Ready and Waiting for You!

Fully Restored in 2002-03 this Beautiful Marina Blue Chevelle looks like she just rolled off of the showroom floor.

She was displayed for approximately 5 years in a private collection in North Carolina before her present owner purchased her in 2011.
In 2012 her engine was completely rebuilt with High Performance parts and her transmission was replaced.

This true SS 396 has the Fisher Body style number 13817 and her VIN begins with 13817. The stamping on her engine pad located on the front passenger side of her original engine matches her VIN.

HISTORY:

1966 was the first year for the SS 396 series performance package.
The SS396 series lasted from 1966 through 1968 before being relegated to an option package in 1969.
The Super Sport name was changed to SS 396 to take advantage of the emerging muscle car market by highlighting the potent 396 cubic-inch powerplant lurking under its hood.

STANDARD FEATURES & OPTIONS:

A standard SS 396 featured a 325hp engine a 3-speed manual floor mounted transmission bench seats and no gauges (except Speedometer Clock and Fuel Gauge).
This Nicely Optioned SS 396 has her Original Optional 396cu.in. 360hp L34 engine mated to a 1969 4-speed Muncie transmission with a Hurst Competition Plus Shifter mounted in her Optional Center Console between her Optional Strato-bucket Seats.
*Her Optional factory 4-speed Muncie was replaced with what appears to be a Legendary M22 "Rock Crusher".

Her other Factory Options include: Sport Instrumentation (Tachometer Oil Pressure Amp Water Temperature gauges) Dual Exhaust Power Steering Sports-Styled Walnut Steering Wheel Tinted windows Rear Speaker Rear Antenna Seatbelts Metallic Brakes and Bumper Guards.

Some of her options have been upgraded.
Her Braking system has been completely upgraded as well as her Sound system.
She has been upgraded with a new AM/FM/Cassette Stereo by Custom Autosound connecting to 2 dash speakers and 2 rear 6"x9" Pioneer speakers.

Her trim tag indicates an optional rear manual antenna but she now has an aftermarket power antenna assembly.
Her trim tag also indicates that she is equipped to handle shoulder harnesses but not whether they were actually installed.

ENGINE

This Stunning Classic Chevy has her Powerful and Original Optional 396cu.in. 4bbl Mark IV Turbo-Jet L34 360hp V8 engine.

Her Engine Castings and Stamps are 3855961 P GM1 T0415EF (Tonawanda NY March 15 1965 ~ EF 396/360hp with manual transmission) and 6A150870 (Partial VIN).
Her engine was rebuilt in 2012 using High Performance components (details in Features Equipment Options List).

She has a correct Air Cleaner atop her 600cfm Holley 4160 Aluminum Street Carburetor mounted to her original Holley Intake Manifold.
She starts up crisply with an MSD ignition Pro-Billet Ready-To-Run Magnetic Trigger Style distributor.

TRANSMISSION

A stout rebuilt 1969 Muncie four-speed manual transmission replaces her original Optional 4- speed Muncie. She has been upgraded with a Hurst Competition Plus Shifter as well.

Take a close look at her current transmission Main Case pictures and notice that she has the correct magnetic fill plug as well as the magnetic drain plug that would indicate an M22 "Rock Crusher".

BRAKES

Since Single-chamber master cylinder and drums brakes were standard for '66 SS 396s this Chevelle which came from the factory with the Optional Metallic Brakes has been upgraded to a Dual-chamber Master cylinder and Power Assist Front Disc brakes.

CHASSIS

The SS 396 uses a beefy perimeter frame with coil springs and gas shocks fore and aft.
Her original 12-bolt rear has the optional KF axle which came with optional Metallic Brakes and a 3.55:1 Axle Ratio.
Her axle is stamped with an E which means she came from the factory with GM Positraction Limited-Slip Differential.

All SS 396 came standard with a Stiffer Anit-Sway bar Stiffer Coils & Shocks and Special Rear Frame Reinforcements.

Add her Power Steering into this mix and you get Performance Handling.
As Chevrolet stated This Chevelle truly is a "No-Compromise Road Machine."

BODY

The 1966 Chevelle was styled with smooth contours a broad grille and bumper treatment and curved side windows.
Bulging rear fender lines and a "flying buttress" roofline were highlights of the '66 GM "A" body models.
The new body reflected the "Coke bottle" body shape that became the fad for American cars in the mid-1960s

SS 396 Chevelles were given an even more aggressive look with a distinctive blacked out grille Argent Silver bumper filler panel Super Sport trim a special SS396 hood with twin louvers 396 Turbo-Jet front fender emblems SS396 emblems on the grille and rear cove Super Sport script on the rear quarter panels and ribbed rocker panel and quarter panel lower moldings.

Mounted on her Slotted Rally wheels with bright trim rings and center caps are quality BF Goodrich Radial T/A P225/70R15 tires.

During her Complete Nut & Bolt Frame-off Restoration her original body panels were removed and everything including her frame was prepped and painted individually before reassembly.

This Rust-Free Solid Southern Belle looks as good underneath as she does on top!

INTERIOR

Open her door and slip into a Strato-bucket seat to feel transported back to a time when Power and Performance was controlled by the driver not a computer.

SS 396 Chevelles included the most luxurious standard interior options of their day.

Her correct Bright Blue Interior has been completely restored with quality materials.
Correct new vinyl upholstery covers her optional Strato-buckets rear bench door panels and other interior surfaces.

She has correct new carpet headliner kick panels window cranks glove box insert sun visors and floor mats.
Her door handles seatbelts and Optional Sport-Styled simulated Wood Steering Wheel appear to be original.
Her optional center console with storage and electric clock is original.

INTERESTING FACTS:
** There is some debate as to whether the rear cove was blacked-out or body color. Early Atlanta cars are known to have had blacked-out panels but due to demand and costs this practice was stopped at the Atlanta assembly plant early in the production year.
It is known many dealers blacked-out the rear cove because the cars sold better.
** The SS396 sport coupe received a new body type designation of "17" due to the new 'strut back' top design.
