Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1955 Description
1955 Chevrolet BelAir 2-Door Hardtop Sport Coupe in Regal Turquoise & India Ivory with Turquoise & Straw two-tone interior. 265 cubic inch V8 engine, automatic transmission. This iconic classic car has been seldom driven and enclosed garage kept since a complete detailed restoration. All chrome and bright work glistens. All glass is in great shape. This is a rust free undamaged car with all original body panels and components. Wide white wall tires with original hub-cap styling complete the exterior look.Occasionally, a new car arrives at just the right moment -- and history is made. One such standout in the 100-years of Chevrolet is the 1955 Bel Air. Chevrolet had a "durable, but dull" image in the early 1950s that cried out to be re-energized. The 1955 Chevy, especially in top-level Bel Air guise, did just that. Debuting just as rock n' roll was about to shake America to its cultural roots, the longer, lower and often two-toned 1955 Chevy exuded American optimism. A sizzling new "Turbo-Fire" V-8 -- the engine that launched Chevy's legendary small-block engine family -- was optional. Chevy ads called the '55, "The Hot One," an allusion both to its V-8 performance and record-breaking sales pace.
For 1955, Chevrolet's full-size model received all new styling and power. Chevrolet's styling was crisp, clean and incorporated a Ferrari-inspired grille. BelAirs came with features found on cars in the lower models ranges plus interior carpet, chrome headliner bands on hardtops, chrome spears on front fenders, stainless steel window moldings, and full wheel covers. Models were further distinguished by the Bel Air name script in gold lettering later in the year. For 1955 Chevrolet's gained a V8 engine option. The new 265 cu in V8 featured a modern, overhead valve high compression, long stroke design that was so good that it remained in production in various forms, for many decades.
The '55 Chevy was a huge success with the general public, and buyers flocked to dealerships to get a look at the new car. Over 1.7 million were produced, and they accounted for nearly 23% of all car sales in the US in 1955. Today, the '55 Chevy is one of the most recognizable cars ever made and is a top draw for collectors.
Chevrolet retained the same body and chassis for the 1955, '56, and '57 model years. These years are all extremely sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, although many diehard Chevrolet enthusiasts prefer the subtlety of the 1955 Chevrolet.
