Chevrolet Corvette 1966 Description
Please note that experience shows us that the photobucket of over 100 large pixel pictures posted here are in most cases best viewed and downloaded using the very latest and most updated version of the 'Firefox' browser as some other browsers and especially older browser versions are not capable of accommodating the size of the download. Over the years our clients have overwhelmingly been appreciative of our many unaltered large pixel photos posted in our ads and our feedback has been that it is very rare that a dealer will post all but the most flattering of professionally finished photographs. We prefer to post the many photos taken of the car, in sometimes unflattering but natural sunlight, in order for our prospective buyers to be able to see true and reliable images of the car advertised and that is the reason for some seemingly duplicated shots. We trust you will agree.
West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional example of this frame off restored 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible with it's original matching # 427cid425HP L72 V8 'IP' code engine matched to a 4 speed manual transmission! The recipient of a recent fame off restoration and refinished in its original 'Nassau Blue' color code 976 paint with its original matching 'Bright Blue Leather' trim code 415 interior with a white soft top matched to its factory optional and original 4 speed manual transmission and knock off wheels. The specifications of the car are as follows:
L72 427/425HP engine; matching #'s and date coded correct with correct 3869942 casting #.
4 speed manual transmission with Muncie 'P' Plant date coded correct 3885010 casing casting #.
Knock off wheels with new red line tires.
T-3 Headlights, roll up and work perfect.
Very straight body and door to birdcage fitment.
Repainted in original 'Nassau Blue' as per 976 code data plate.
Interior is original Bright Blue color, leather seats recovered at restoration.
Manual steering, brakes and windows. Electric antenna and AM radio. Tinted glass.
All mechanics are excellent.
The L72 engine was obviously professionally rebuilt with the deck and VIN carefully preserved with the numbers on the pad reading T1126IP 6107850 which correctly decodes as 'T' for the Tonowanda NY engine plant (the only plant building the 425HP motors), '1126' is the engine assembly date of November 26th and 'IP' is the correct code for the 427/425HP with its correct 3885010 M21 Muncie 4 spd.
The'6107850' decodes as '6' correct for 1966 model year and '107850' is the matching VIN of the car (194676S107850).
Finally, the casting number is the 427 correct '3869942' (see photos below).
This is all it should be, a real 425HP L72 427 big block roadster. One of only 5,258 L72's built and installed in Corvettes for one year only in 1966.
In 1966, the 427 cubic inch was introduced in the Corvette and all 427 engine cars received special hoods. The high performance solid lifter 427 was initially listed at 450HP but for reasons unclear the rating, not the actual output, was reduced to 425HP shortly after introduction. It is also of note that some 390HP engines were rated at 400HP. Backup lights became standard and were incorporated into the existing rear inboard taillight housings.
The car has no signs of any accidents and is the beneficiary of an obviously recent frame off restoration and looks extremely striking in it's repainted original 'Nassau Blue' color paint with the matching Bright Blue leather interior and a White soft top. The original matching # 427/425HP (IP code) engine is extremely strong and powerful and this particular car drives absolutely magnificently and sounds quite awesome (check out our video on our You Tube page on our website) - must be driven and seen to be truly appreciated - drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day sports car a run for it's money! The 4 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and the temperature always remains cool!
This is a rare opportunity to own a great daily driving and never abused example of a recently frame-off restored 1966 Chevrolet Corvette 427/425HP Big Block Roadster in very fine condition throughout and with a very desirable 4 speed manual transmission! This is one highly desirable and collectible unabused example of one of the best styling efforts of the decade, a genuine grand touring car in every sense of the word, this shortest lived Corvette design (1963-67) is probably the most sought after apart from the 1953-1958 models and they are seemingly increasing in value and desirability each year! This particular model, with it's original 427/425 L72 engine with knock off wheels and a 4 speed manual is sure to prove a most worthy investment for any Corvette collector or classic American car enthusiast!
