Chevrolet C-10 1987 Description
ONE OWNER-ATTENTION RESTORERS: I bought this 1987 Silverado C-10 from the estate of a 93 year old man who purchased it new upon retirement. His daughter said he took really good care of his things and based on what I see here, he was a big believer in preventive maintenance. As you read the description I am including the negatives--the blemishes--so no one will be disappointed when it is picked up after the auction. Look over the pictures and feel free to ask questions. I am placing a very reasonable reserve on it and am confident the truck will sell. I do have it listed locally but when the reserve is met I will pull the local listing and it will go to the highest ebay bidder. The seats are near perfect due to him installing seat covers immediately upon buying the truck. It has the long bed (8 ft.) and it is bed in great shape due to the 1/2" rubber mat he installed. The mat stays with the truck. By the way, as you look at pictures of the bed be mindful that the brownish areas you see along the edges is sand NOT rust. There were a few ruptured bags of sand in it when I bought it and I swept most of it out but there is still some along the edges.
The body is solid and has only a few rusted spots as shown in the pictures. The worst is on the left side where the Silverado emblem is attached. There is a pretty rough spot to the rear of the passenger door which will definitely require attention. The rest of the body looks pretty good, although it will need painting.
It drives very well. The four speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the front end is tight. The engine idles smoothly and runs great. Under the hood the hoses and plug wires look new, I installed a new battery and I had the fuel pump, filter and lines replaced. It has dual fuel tanks. The tires are good and it comes with the topper in the pictures. A pair of aluminum walk boards are also included. I had to remove them in order to trailer the truck. Please note that the air conditioner does not cool. It has tilt steering and cruise control.
As the pictures indicate, it needs new paint, especially the hood where the clear coat is peeling and faded. Also, the headliner needs replacing and as with most of these old trucks, the covering on the dash is cracked. And the trim pieces covering the door closing strap inside are missing. The carpet on the floor is pretty good although not nearly as good as the seats. The AM radio works but I have no way of testing the cassette player. The odometer reads 06641.1 so I am thinking it has 106K miles on it.
With not much effort or expense this truck could be turned into a fine restoration. On the other hand, it could be driven daily. I would not hesitate to start across the country with it. So if you are looking for a good project that you can make some money on you will want to consider this old pickup.
If you want more pictures feel free to ask. It is located in Dawsonville, Georgia--about an hour north of Atlanta. You are welcome to come and take a look. I can be reached at 615-981-6089 most anytime.
