Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1954 Description
This little Chev has a perfect jet black mirror finish. It was originally a US car and brought to Canada quite a while ago where it wound up being stored in a garage in the Okanogan Valley for many years. It has not had a body off restoration but is a very straight and solid car. Floors are solid in the cabin and trunk with one very small perforation in the trunk and one dime size hole in the back seat floor. The cabin floor was undercoated years ago and has been left as is with no new material added.
It was purchased and brought into the Edmonton area where the original power train was removed and the car was prepped for paint. It was originally a tan color and the plan was to do it in red. The firewall was painted red as the car was being sanded down and prepped. When they discovered how straight this body was the plan was changed to go with jet black and a red insert which was a big success.
It is base clear application, wet sanded and polished to a mirror finish as can be seen in the photos.
A small block 400 was installed with a 350 turbo transmission and Malibu rear end which proved to be another winning combination for the car. It starts and drives perfectly, cruises down the road like a Cadillac. The motor is not rebuilt but runs very well and does not smoke or drip at all.
If the power train is not what your choice may have been I can guarantee that this car would warrant whatever plans you might have for it, but it works very well as it is if you just want to enjoy the ride.
Front end is a Mustang clip with power steering and disc brakes while the rear brakes are drum. It does not have power brakes because of the limited space in the convertible frame but it stops well without having to stand on the pedal.
The wheels are Cragar Star Wires and really add to the Cadillac look plus set off the Coker Classic P23575R15 rears and P225/75R14 on the front.
Everything has been converted to 12 volt and a set of new Dolphin gauges installed in the original gauge cluster. Radio is converted to 12 volt as well but nobody listens to AM so not much of a feature.
The top is new as are the rams and the motor for smooth operation of the convertible part. Most of the chrome and stainless is new and shows very well. The side window frames and parts of the dash have minor pitting. Glass is all very good.
Upholstery is new and done in red/white, dash repainted to the black/ red combo to make everything come together with the exterior and provide a very complimentary interior.
The car ran a little hot in traffic so a new rad was installed and a 170 thermostat. It cruises the highway at 170 degrees and now runs at around 185 in stop/go traffic so no issues for parades.
I would consider an Austin Healey replica car as partial trade. The car is going to be advertised locally so it may be withdrawn from the auction at any time.
The vehicle is located in Sherwood Park Alberta T8C 1E1 and shipping quotes can obtained from TURBO AUTO TRANSPORT by calling 1-888-418-4029 Ext 101. Turbo also handles the cross border paperwork for Northbound or Southbound vehicles
Best of luck bidding.
