Chevrolet Chevelle 1968 Description
This seller, a father and son, took up rebuilding Chevy small-block V-8 engines in the early 1970s. A love affair began with these most successful engines. They came from the factory with many different options - enough to accomodate the broadest range of tastes - from hot-rodding to granny's trips to the grocery store. The drive train was at ease if a boat trailer was in tow, and the Power-Glide 2-speed transmission would shift at a comfortable 16 mph into the high gear. If the driver "sat on the accelerator" it would do 0 - 60 mph with the driver pinned to the back of the seat. The owner-driver could tune it using an allen wrench and a match-book cover if so inclined. The body styles with colors and interiors to suit any taste made this automobile famously popular from the introduction of that engine in the 1955 models. The "Average Jeanny or Joe" now had an affordable vehicle with wondrous options. If s/he could afford a few extras, no one outclassed that class any longer. The Malibu was discontinued in the early 1970s - a 15-year buzz and a delight for the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors. Has there been anything to equal it since? This car belongs in an Automobile Museum but it's too much fun to drive, especially in good surroundings with the windows down.
