Chevrolet Corvair 1966 Description

This is a1966 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa that was an original unmolested SoCal car with approximately 66,000 miles when bought in 2010.

It is a genuine Corsa, with VIN and build plate to match.

Between 2011-2015 it underwent a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration.

Being sold by current owner, not a dealer or wholesaler.

This car has been driven about 500 miles since the mechanical rebuild. Starts, runs, and drives great.

SUMMARY: 66 Coupe, 4 speed, 3.73 posi, quick steering box, telescopic steering column, rebuilt original 140hp engine. Interior completely replaced.

ENGINE:Engine rebuilt with new cylinders, new +.020 TRW pistons, new rings & gaskets. New cam (270) and lifters were installed by previous owner.

- Cylinder head glass bead blasted and rebuilt to factory specs including new valves, new valve guides, new springs. This is a correct 140 setup.

- Correct rebuilt Rochester carbs, including primaries by Clarks, secondaries by Mel’s.Correct new fuel lines, new fuel pump, electric fuel pump added in 2015, correct air filter.

- Rebuilt starter & solenoid.

- New exhaust with Clarks exhaust pipes, Walker mufflers, chrome tips.

-Pushrod tubes installed with Viton seals. New rocker nuts.

-Otto aluminum oil pan installed.

TRANSMISSION / DRIVETRAIN: Saginaw gearbox rebuilt. All moving parts checked.

- Differential rebuilt with new 3:73 posi gears, new bearings and seals.New gear oil with posi additive.

- New clutch plate, rebuilt flywheel by Mels, new throwout bearing and seals (including the ¾” driveshaft seal that always leaked and was a pita to replace.)

SUSPENSION: Flaming River quick steering box (12:1) installed in 2015.

-New KYB shocks at all 4 corners. Springs are factory type (no lowering or raising of the chassis)

-New front end parts, including ball joints, bearings, tie rod ends, idler arm, steering bush.

- New rear U joints, bearings, and hardware.

- Correct for the era 14” Chevy 14X7 rally wheels with 225/60R14 BFG T/A Radials, stainless outer trim slots and rally center trim.

- Spare tire hasbeen moved from engine compartment to trunk - a slight improvement in weight distribution.

BRAKES – System rebuilt with new lines, dual master cylinder, all 4 brake cylinders, shoes, new wheel drums and hardware. Parking brake system rebuilt.

GAUGES:Correct original CORSA gauge pod consisting of excellent speedo showing 22,660 miles (not correct). Correct excellent tachometer, and 4 gauge set of temp, gas, manifold vacuum gauge, and clock.

ELECTRICAL: New correct wiring harnesses throughout including main harness, front and rear lighting harnesses.

-Headlamps are new T3's in correct HI / LO configuration.

-Correct new tail lights.

-Correct new ignition switch, headlight switch and wiper/washer switches.

-NOS front parking lamp housings and lenses.

FUEL TANK: Correct, excellent condition fuel tank. Fill tubewas moved to inside the trunk by previous owner. I like the security of a hidden fuel cap. And it is a cleaner look.

INTERIOR:

The interior was completely replaced in 2014: New ProCar Rally black velour seats*, new carpet, reupholstered rear seat and storage area. Door panels are new Clarks – missing the trim strips and “C” logo. (sorry, these are unobtanium).

- (* = I consider original seats to be dangerous because they have no headrest and the backs are not locked meaning they can tilt forward in a frontal crash. The ProCar seats are very comfortable. They are not cheepand are correct left & right installed with ProCar mounting adapters.)

- Telescopic steering was rebuilt with new parts and functions as new.

- Arm rests are new. New door seals, pillar rubber, and windlace. Trunk and engine compartment seals replaced.

- Steering wheel is an A- correct wheel for the Corsa.

- Clarks center console installed.

- Radio is installed but does not work.

-The heater motor and fan were replaced with remanufactured parts, however the heater is not functional. The ductwork for the heating system is installed – tinwork surrounding the exhaust manifolds are missing. I will provide a used set including the shrouds necessary to connect to the ductwork, if you ask.

COSMETICS: Car was painted candy red in 2012. The paint job is a solid A- quality. There are a few scratches and some orange peel, but no rust.At left rear quarter panel there is a quarter-sized ding where a shopping cart bumped it. If the auction meets reserve, I will have this ding repaired. And there is a small paint imperfection (not rust) on the front cowl. Few dust nibs that I have decided to leave alone.

-Lower exhaust grill is a 1965 style with NOS dual bright aluminum grilles. My personal preference was to use the ’65 style. A painted 1966 grille with NOS correct single bright aluminum grille is available.

-All britework has been replaced with new, including all badges (Corvair, 140hp, Corsa logos, etc.)Rocker spears were new and correct when installed in 2014.Door sills are new – correct replacements still covered with plastic.

-Bumpers have been rechromed and are near perfect. End trim newly installed in 2014, upper trim was new – has 1-2 small rubs.

-Headlight bezels were new old stock when installed in 2014.

-New correct windshield installed in 2014.

-Windshield trim is a solid 9 out of 10. I have extra trim strips available.

-Door glass, quarter windows are very good. Back glass is OK – I have a replacement available if you ask.

-Door handles, door locks, and mirrors are new manufacture, correct for this vehicle. New trunk lock.

-Wheel well trim provided by Clarks and is correct for 1966 Corvair.

-Dash pad and seat belts provided by Clarks.

- A new Corsa correct front spoiler was added in 2015.

NOTE:There may be other parts replaced that are not on this list.Questions cheerfully answered. Picky observations or lowball offers cheerfully ignored. Please don't ask for reserve price or to end the auction outside eBay. If you've been following Corsa's, you know that correctly restored 65-66'srun$21,000-$24,000. My reserve is nowhere near this range.

IMPORTANT:This is a 51 year old that deserves to be driven and preserved by someone who appreciates vintage Chevy iron. This car is simple to maintain, seeps only a tiny amount of oil (most likely from a pushrod seal that can easily be replaced if you wish to do so).
