Chevrolet Corvair 1964 Description

1964 Corvair Monza Turbo Charged Spyder Convertible

(Please take a close look at the details in the pictures(especially the engine)to appreciate the quality)

This Factory Turbocharged Chevy Corvair Spyder was built by Chevrolet Motor Div. General Motors Corp in Willow Run Michigan. Although the Corvair never achieved the success of its more conventional compact car rivals, ports car enthusiasts took an immediate liking to it. They admired its quick handling qualities, utsy-sounding rear engine and European flavor. The Monza Spyder was first introduced as an optional equipment package in April 1962. It had a high-performance turbo-charged engine, pecial trim and identification badges, ront bucket seats, loor-shifted 4-speed manual transmission and distinctive Spyder wheel center emblems. The 1964 model year was the first and last time that a separate Spyder series appeared. Technically, hese Spyder's are considered the best ever built because they featured improved engine gaskets, inned rear brake drums and a heavy-duty rear suspension system. Only 4,761 of these 1964 Monza Spyder Convertibles were ever built.
