Chevrolet Corvair 1964 Description
This is a nice driver-condition 64 Monza ragtop. It has recent bodywork and paint that make it aneye-catcher wherever it goes. While very nice, he paint isn't perfect, ince the car is driven. Some minor chips and scratches that are a part of everyday use are there. Interior is also very nice, ut again, ot perfect. No major rips or tears in seats, nd door panels are better than they should be for this age. Steering wheel freshly painted and carpet is only a couple of months old. This is a typical oldCorvair that looks better than most. The motor puffs a bit upon startup, nd the lifters rattle a little when cold. Thepower glide automatic shifts fine, hough there is a slight hesitation when the car is put into reverse. It always backs up, ust takes a couple of seconds. Car did this when I bought it, nd it hasn't gotten any better or worse in my time driving it.The spots where these cars rust have had some work with sheet metal and fiberglass by a previous owner.Their work wasn't what I would call professional, ut there are no gaping holes either. Most of the perforation was covered with fiberglass due to small size of spots. Only the driver's floorboard has had metal replaced. Front trunk has also had some fiberglass applied.Suspension and brakeson the car seem to be fine, hough I'm sure its been awhile since they were rebuilt. All brake shoes, ome rubber hoses and master cylinder appear to benewer than other components. Car goes down the road nice and straight at 70 mph, ut the four wheel, on-power drum brakes do remind you how far brake technology has come in 50 years.Corvairs are like British Sports cars. If someone tells you they don't leak, ither they are lying to you or the crankcase is dry. This one doesn't leak excessively, ut if you don't start it or drive it every couple of days, he Powerglide trans will protest by marking its territory. Keep it limbered up, nd this isn't a problem. When thecar was painted, everal of the exterior brightwork pieces were replaced with NOS and aftermarket pieces. Grille, eadlamp bezels, aillamp bezels and lenses, nd some emblems were replaced to give the old girl some new bling. The bumpers were notreplated, nd are decent but not show quality. All lights work as intended. So what doesn't work? The horn works when it feels like it, hich tends to vary by day. The radio doesn't work, hough I believe the radio head itself is fine. The dash speaker that was in the car when I bought it dissolved into dust when I removed it, nd I just neverreplaced it. I believe a new speaker would probably bring the radio back to life, ut I can't guarantee it.Being a Florida car, he car also lacks a heater. Someone long ago removed the lower engine tins that hold all of the dripping oil that usually gets blown into the cab of aCorvair when you engage the system, o consider it a safety feature that they aren't there. Theactual heater boxand fan are there, nd the fan works, ut in order to make the heater functional, ou would have to replacethe lower pans, nd most of the fabric hoses in the cab. More trouble than its worth for where I drive the car.In the last six months, he motor got a new distributor, oil and two carbs rebuilt by Wolf Enterprises. She runs, tarts and cruises nicely. All glass is intact with no breaks, op is in good condition, nd rear window is nice and clear. A worn but fully useable top boot also included. As for rubber, ll tires are in excellent condition. Weatherstripping is a mixed bag. Some of it is very good or nearly new, hile other pieces, uch as around the vent windows and windshield, ppear to be quite old.Odometer shows 15500 miles. I'm sure its at least the second time around, nd maybe even more. On a 51 year old car, nything is possible and likely probable. In short, ts a nice driver that has brought home a trophy at every car show I have taken it to this summer. Will it need some more work? Of course it will. Its 51 years old! If youexpect to roll across the lawn at Pebble Beach with this car, antasize elsewhere. Itsnever going to be a 100 point car, ut it wins darn near as many trophies!I have done my best to be as honest as possible with the description, ut it is an internet listing. I'm sure I have left things out that a new buyer will find. This isn't intentional, ts just a fact of life. If you are anywhere near Tampa Bay and would like to look before bidding, welcome the opportunity to show the car. If, n the other hand, ou are someone who expects tobuy the car for next to nothing, nd then badger meincessantly for months about every flawyou find, o us both a favor and look elsewhere. THE CAR IS SOLD AS IS, HERE IS, ND THERE IS NO WARRANTY REAL OR IMPLIED. Refunds are also not going to be forthcoming.Shipping is theresponsibility of the buyer, hough I will cooperate to best of my ability to help in any way possible on my end. I have bought and sold cars oneBay since its inception, nd I know how to get it done.Someone will almost certainly ask me if they can drive the car home to Outer Mongolia or someplace even farther from Florida. The answer is I don't know. Its an old car. It might get you there, nd it might not get you to the end of the block. The car has never stranded me, ut even a new car can quit on you when you least expect it. I would plan onshipping it if you live very far away.
