  • In 1963, the full-size family car was still the king of the road. The intermediates that would spur the muscle-car movement had not yet quite found that niche, and a sharp ride that could seat five of your closest friends and cruise with ease still had plenty of appeal. For Chevy fans, the Impala was the natural choice, offering room for the whole gang, handsome styling and ample performance if so desired. At first glance, this 1963 Chevrolet Impala 2-door hardtop seems a rather “plain Jane” affair, but a closer look reveals a very special find. And while not an upscale Super Sport model, it quietly offered its first owner every comfort and convenience available in 1963, with the added excitement of a willing powertrain. Built at the St. Louis assembly plant and a Texas car until 1998, it had it all right from the start: Air conditioning, tinted windshield, day/night mirror, AM/FM pushbutton radio, in-dash clock, Likely the first installed in a full-sized Chevrolet in the first year of availability. Smack in the middle of all that luxury is a floor-mounted shifter, and that’s where the fun really begins, for it’s there to connect the driver to the 327/300 HP 4-barrel small-block engine up front, and 3.73 Positraction rear end. There is serious big-car performance here, and it comes in pristine form after a nut-and-bolt restoration representing an investment of approximately $90,000. Finished in classic Ermine White with aBlack interior, this Day One-production Impala presents in beautiful concours condition and has been driven just 125 miles since its completion.
