Second only to the legendary 1969 Camaro in the poll of ultimate offerings for Chevrolet's first hundred years (1911-2011), the 1970 Chevelle Super Sport is one of the most popular muscle cars of all time. Simply put: the car's appeal is undeniable, and this impressive LS6 coupe represents the best of what the marque was and is! The recipient of meticulous restoration, this fully documented Super Sport features a numbers-matching big block, a correct 'Rock Crusher' transmission and silky Fathom Blue over Black aesthetics. If you're in the market for a top notch example of one of the best Chevrolets ever produced, here it is!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Hailing from GM's storied, and still functional, Arlington manufacturing facility, this stunning LS6 Super Sport is the beneficiary of a high quality, frame-off restoration that's so nice it schools factory survivors. After professional metalwork, which resulted in a straight and solid profile, the car's panels were layered in correct Fathom Blue 2-stage, dashed with Classic White Rally Stripes and capped in correct Black vinyl. And today, this top dog Chevy rolls as a spectacular piece of iconic American muscle that's detailed to better-than-new standards.

Many enthusiasts believe the '70 Chevelle introduced a host of excellent refinements that transformed the 'good' design of Chevrolet's '69 model into something 'great'. At the front of this sinister coupe, a familiar crossbar grille hangs a prominent "SS" emblem between a small "CHEVELLE" script, stainless-trimmed T3 headlights and a fresh chrome bumper that's finished with clear parking lamps. Above that bumper, a correct cowl induction hood anchors rebuilt hide-a-way wipers between vintage glass, traditional lanyards and vintage stainless trim. At the base of that trim, bright "SS454" badges combine with straight wheel frames, traditional door handles and a correct chrome mirror to add visual detail to the car's liquid smooth profile. And at the back of that profile, a second chrome bumper centers a black Super Sport inlay between clear brake lights, a classy "Chevelle by Chevrolet" emblem and spotless stainless exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Although the second-generation Super Sport's ferocious Turbo Jet V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, it actually punched the dyno somewhere north of 500. Pull this classic's pins and you'll find a correct cowl induction system that's cleanly integrated into a completely finished, Satin Black frame. At the center of that frame, a correctly decaled, single-snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen in to a big Holley 4-barrel, which is threaded onto a familiar Winters intake. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor sequences fire through fresh Packard TV R Suppression cables. Below those cables, an old school AC fuel pump fronts restored exhaust manifolds and cast iron heads. In front of those heads, pliable GM hoses channel water past a correct fan and date-correct alternator with the help of a beefy radiator and familiar tower clamps. Naturally, the VIN-stamped, "CRV" branded mill has been bathed in vivid Chevy Orange paint. And everything, from the car's small hood lamp and Delco Moraine brake booster to its mirrored valve covers and reproduction Delco battery, looks much nicer than anything that left the assembly line.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

In case you're wondering, the bottom of this Chevelle is just as clean and carefully restored as its straight body panels and pristine engine bay. The car's rust-free floors have been skinned in Red Oxide and dusted with Fathom Blue overspray. Behind the big block, a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher twists torque to a familiar 12-bolt axle that's built around a posi-traction differential and stout, 4.10 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a heavy-duty F41 Sport Suspension, which centers a trusted Saginaw steering box between stiff springs, boxed control arms and sturdy sway bars. Requisite power front disc and rear drum brakes increase stopping and handling ability. Aluminized exhaust pipes funnel charred dinos through factory resonators and brash turbo mufflers. And at the corners of the car, correct Super Sport wheels spin F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval tires around stainless trim rings and "SS" branded center caps.

INTERIOR

Decked in correct Black vinyl, this Chevelle's fully restored interior is both attractive and inviting. Its slick bench and bucket seats are firm to the touch, showing no signs of detrimental wear and tear. In front of those seats, a familiar Super Sport dash anchors optional deluxe telemetry beside a vintage Delco AM/FM radio. Below that dash, a silver-trimmed console centers a small oil gauge and polished Muncie shifter on clean carpet, color-keyed floor mats and straight Fisher sills. Opposite that console, pick-free door panels hang tasteful stainless trim around correct chrome handles and requisite "SS" emblems. In front of the driver, a reproduction Chevrolet Rally Wheel keeps everything pointed straight. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk seals a full-size spare tire and correct jack assembly between a correct mat and bright decklid decals.
