Dodge Power Wagon 1953 Description
Up for sale is my 1953 Dodge M-37 ¾ Ton 4 X 4 Cargo Truck. I have owned this truck for 30+ years.Need to make room in garage for other toys.Truck was purchased while living in Southern Illinois from Civil Defense Department.I have always kept the truck in garage and covered with tarp.Truck has original 251 cubic inch engine, 4 speed transmission with operational high & low 4 wheel drive. Truck has 38588 original miles.Truck is approximately 90%+ original with changes being 12 volt ignition system, alternator, addition of a fuse box (12V), some new wiring, and keyed ignition switch. Some of the original 24 V wiring is still intact under hood. The original vacuum operated wipers had already been replaced with electric style and function. Truck drives great with a top speed of 45 mph on pavement with a 24 gallon fuel tank.Fuel tank was removed 8 years ago and cleaned by a professional. The engine runs great. The motor is very smooth running and the throttle is responsive. Aftermarket heater was installed on passenger side under dash and has dual fans. The wiring to the fans needs to be possibly redone. The truck can set for a month and crank up and run. I changed the oil, replaced the spark plugs and wires (w/ Belden racing plug wires), and flushed and replaced the antifreeze. All the fittings have been kept greased, and fluid levels have been kept topped off. Truck has ‘Fording kit’ installed (Air cleaner tube extension, and tailpipe extension).Truck has Driver mounted door spare tire carrier.Truck bed has Bed Roof bow assembly with side seats, which fold down. All wood has been replaced with new.The set currently installed is made so truck can fit through 8ft tall garage door.I made an extra set to normal height. No cover for back.Wood has been stained and polyurethane for protection.Truck has hard top.Tires are about 40%.The tires hold air and drive fine.
I stripped off the paint and painted with Imron Black and trimmed in ‘Massey Ferguson’ Red. The steering functions fine. It isgood and tight for the age. With the large tires truck steers a lot easier when you are moving, rather than sitting still.
The brakes work fine at stopping this 5,800 pound truck. One of the front wheel cylinders need to be replaced. The brake master cylinder was replaced less than 6 years ago.The parking brake works. The body is not beat up, nor is it cut up.The running boards are solid. The tailgate is very solid (no rust) and opens and closes fine. It has the original chains and hooks.Rear Pintle hook functions properly. All tow hooks and rings are in place (Front and Back). Driver seat back needs to be re-upholstered as shown in picture.
This truck would take very little to bring back to 100% original. The truck is absolutely an attention getter and will go anywhere.
The truck comes with some extra parts. Some of these parts were purchased while restoring but were never used.
1 battery box
6 reflectors (4 red and 2 amber)
6 marker lights
2 blackout lights (one with bracket)
Air Cleaner
After market spare gas tank (20 gal)
Numerous troop seat brackets; approximately enough for a couple of trucks (metal parts only, no wood)
Slave cable modified with standard Jumper clamps on one end.
Other misc. parts.
