In an era of outrageous customs and high dollar pro-tourers, there’s a certain beauty in finding honest-to-goodness muscle cars like this awesome Charger. Professionally restored, and fitted with a fuel injected 440/4-speed drivetrain, this buff MoPar is as timeless now as it was back in 1969. And if you’re looking for some tough Motown metal that’s right and ready to roll, it’s a prime candidate for your next classic!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Benefitting from a professional restoration that was completed in September of 2016 by Inman, South Carolina’s Hodge Restorations, this cool coupe is a no-holds-barred classic that wraps fresh quarters and a new trunk pan in glossy Silver Metallic 2-stage. At the front of that pigment, a silver-trimmed grille hangs a prominent “Charger” script above a polished bumper and round, fratzog-branded parking lamps. Above that grille, a sculpted hood plants small turn indicators in front of clean glass that’s framed in dent-free stainless trim. At the sides of that bonnet, a faceted profile anchors chrome Chrysler door handles between a traditional mirror, small marker lamps and a familiar ‘pit stop’ fuel filler. And at the back of that profile, a brilliant R/T tail stripe leads a blacked-out valance, which plants a second “Charger” script and clean taillights above a second polished bumper, factory reverse lamps and polished TTi exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Toss the hood and you’ll find 440 cubic inches of Chrysler RB big block that plants a .030 overbore under a polished breather, a polished oil cap, finned Mopar Performance valve covers and slick Hemi Orange paint. Those covers shield hardened valve seats, bronze valve guides and Comp hydraulic lifters, which feed a steel crank, flat-top pistons and a Comp roller cam. FiTech Go EFI 4 600 horsepower fuel injection joins a color-keyed air cleaner and lightweight Edelbrock intake to supply a perfect mixture of fuel and oxygen. Stout 10 to 1 compression gets sparked by 8.5mm MSD Super Conductor plug wires, which are snapped to an MSD Pro-Billet distributor that’s sequenced to a Pertronix Flame-Thrower coil. Exhaust leaves through restored, cast iron manifolds. A factory radiator keeps everything cool. And, aesthetically, the Silver Metallic engine bay looks great, from its old school Chrysler washer reservoir to its reproduction MoPar battery.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Behind the 440, a proven A833 4-speed twists a tough 8.75-inch axle that’s finished with friendly, 3.23 gears. Under that drivetrain, a Firm Feel torsion bar suspension makes optimal use of factory power steering. Abrupt stops are supplied by power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust rolls through large-diameter pipes, which float an H-shape crossover in front of throaty Dynomax mufflers. And at the corners of the chassis, chrome Magnum 500s spin 245/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 295/50R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.

INTERIOR

Inside this awesome Dodge, a mostly stock interior is clean, well fitted and surprisingly stylish. During the restoration, the car’s factory buckets were furnished in fresh vinyl. In front of those thrones, a 2-tone dash hangs Dakota Digital VHX telemetry beside a factory AM/FM radio. At the bottom of that dash, fresh carpet centers a long Hurst shifter between thick floor mats. And in front of the driver, an aftermarket steering wheel laps a modern, tilting column.
