Dodge Monaco 1973 Description

My daughter and son need a car they can drive so I have to sell this one. If I can't I will gradually work on it as I have been. My mechanic put a new radiator on it but says it needs a fan shroud to keep it cooler still. He has the engine running great. He said the transmission looks rebuilt which is what the previous owner said he did. The 400 engine was said to be a combination of economy and performance and was the next step up over the 383. It really moves around town with plenty of torque and horsepower. Better still is it can take parts from the old 383 High Performance engines such as one I saw on Craigslist recently or be swapped out for a 440. This has a two barrel carb but when you punch it all that gas goes down into the engine and it really takes off. But best of all if you have the money is this engine can be made into a 512 engine! It had the thickest walls of any of those old Mopar engines which allows it to be made into one so these engines are sought after for that reason, I can't really claim to understand that much about it. The car is said to be perfectly matched with the suspension to the weight and performance of the engine. It takes regular gas but does seem to perform faster with premium, but right now I have regular in the tank and I have to be careful not to put my foot down to hard or else it will spin the tires. It warms up quickly compared to the 1971 Chrysler 300 I had with a 440 4 barrel and is said to have about 25 less horsepower than a similarly equipped 440, so if you want more power and find an old engine with some good parts cheaply you will be able to make the car drive even faster than you need. As it is, I have had no problems whatsoever with getting enough performance out of it, and people look at this car wherever I go, usually at the back end of it, which surprisingly looks a lot like the front end from the right angle. Has hidden headlights and was the last of the fancier C body Monaco's. The next year the Monaco took on more of the Blue Brother's Cop Car incarnation with a cop engine, cop suspension or whatever it was they had in that movie. This is similar to a Dodge Charger but much less of these are left around. There is a ton of leg room both front and back, and the passenger seat reclines all the way back so you can sleep in it if you have to. Actual mileage is in excess of it's mechanical limits so it is not what the odometer says, which only says less than 57,000 miles. Has a cigar lighter out of a 1973 Dodge Charger that works and a very big ashtray it is hidden inside of. The gas tank has been replaced with a smaller one and the gauge is tied to an old 8 track player that isn't working right now. Also has a different thermostat on the car than the original and some patch work on the bottom of the back window and lower portion of the trunk hood. The car measures in at 19 and 1/2 feet long with the rubber bumpers and has an amazingly smooth ride. Over two tons of fun. I am just a private individual so this car is being sold "as is". Please ask any questions ahead of time all sales are final. Thank you. Also you may look at the car if you like before you bid if you can somehow get here before the auction closes.
