Dodge Polara 1961 Description
Everyone knows that wagons are the hottest trend in Hot Rods and everybody needs at least one cool wagon. If you can only buy one - this is it! Today I'm offering my super cool 1961 Dodge Pioneer wagon. I have never seen another one anywhere (and I get around). I love wagons and just had to have this one. This design is from the famous designer Virgil Exner during the Mopar "Forward Look" era. It is the last of the fin cars. Dodge called the fins "stabilizers" on this particular model. I figure they add at least another 50 mph to the top speed! It is the last of the true space age cars.It has a beautiful dash with the neat see through speedometer. All the gauges and radio are working perfectly. EVERYTHING works, ven the gas gauge. It starts easily and runs nice and quiet. The push button automatic transmission was rebuilt a few years ago (mainly because of dried out seals leaking). I'm including a vintage "Swamp Cooler" that works well and looks like it was made for this car.
I have the original owners manual, arranty documents and purchase agreement along with some misc service records and receipts. Car was originally sold to a lady in Stevens Point, isconsin.
It is currently lowered with just a simple adjustment of the front torsion bars. It's wearing a new set of 17" wheels modified to accept the factory dog dish hubcaps and a nice set of Michelin low profile tires. Sale includes the stock wheels with a new set of 14" radials.
This car runs and rides really nice. Brakes are good. Handling is still tight.
Interior is all original and I will include a brand new "in the box" full carpet kit from ACC with an additional 10' of matching carpet to complete the cargo area. The door panels are perfect! The perforated headliner is very nice and has no defects. All the windows go up and down without a problem.
The paint is old and pretty crappy. It has chips and scratches here and there. There are a couple later touch ups that are a shade off. It is good enough for a driver, ut this car deserves to be restored! It is so rare and complete. I'm sure it will bring huge money with just a little time and money. The good part is nothing is missing or non-stock. There are a couple pieces of trim that were boogered up by a previous owner so I sourced an NOS set that I will include.
It is a good running and driving car. I would not hesitate driving it anywhere.
Factory floor pans and rockers are factory and rust free. There is a small rusted out area at the base of the spare tire well that needs a patch welded in. Nothing serious and it's underneath where nobody will be inspecting it. Both lower rear quarters have had some old repair which is now showing. Front bumper has rust on the lower edges but is solid and straight otherwise.
You can enjoy this car today and restore or hot rod as time and funds permit. Hit the Buy it now and I will deliver to the NSRA show in Louisville free of charge. I GUARANTEE you will have the only one on the grounds! Please feel free to call if you have any questions at 317-917-3211.
