Dodge Dart 1968 Description
You are bidding on a 1968 Dodge Dart 2 Door Sedan (Post Car). A very solid 48 year old car that was purchased in the late 90’s with only one MAACO re-paint over 17 years ago over good steel. The dash shows less than 22,000 miles. The original (as far as we know) 225 Slant 6 cylinder engine still runs great. This was the only option on this Dart. It is a manual steering, manual brake vehicle. It still has the original, uncut, Radio delete plate in the dash & the fender was never cut for the antenna. The original 3 (on the tree) speed manual transmission was removed & replaced with a 4 speed overdrive. A New Sherman steel shifter hump on the floor was installed using another Dart with original hump as a template as where to cut the hole in the floor, were & how long the factory welds should be. The conversion was then primed, painted & undercoated just in that area. The shifter was a Hurst Super Shifter with Competition Shifter Rods. All topped off with an original 1967 Dart Shifter Handle & knob out of a 273 4 speed car. Also a slightly larger that original Ram stock style clutch, pressure plate bolted to the original flywheel. Lastly of course a new throw-out bearing was installed. Then the Car was put into storage for the last 12 years. Kind of like a barn find that’s in your own garage. That being said, We DO NOT recommend driving this vehicle until it is checked out for all safety concerns that could be lurking(BRAKES, FUEL, ETC) Body is in very nice overall condition with a few dings and dents, paint is now faded. The rear wheel wells will need attention soon as we noticed that the paint is starting to bubble behind & close to the rear wheel opening. SEE PHOTOS! The left front fender opening also has rust at the opening in a very small area. The rest of the dog leg looks fine. The right door has a couple of small bubbles. Lastly, the steel, left side bottom rear window (backlight) under the trim is showing a small hole with rust outside the trim in the same area. The frame rails & floors look good. The trunk appears to only have surface rust in a few areas. WE DID NOT TAKE A HAMMER TO THE TRUNK FLOOR! The jack is in the trunk as is the spare that was removed for photos. Left taillight & bezel are broken and a good used one is included. The left rear quarter panel near the tail light is dented that should pop out. Not being a body tech, we did not attempt the repair as it could have made matters worse. The black interior has a bench seat that needs redone. The original rubber floor mat was removed years ago & replaced with a carpet that has since faded out. The headliner is holed & would need replaced. The rear shelf is cracked & would need replaced. Dash pad is fair with some curling taking place. No major cracks yet. The Steering wheel is Great shape! Currently has a GTS hood with 1969 inserts. The original hood is also included. The Gas tank was replaced, new straps, bolts, nuts & the sending unit was upgraded to the 3/8 outlet (AKA Hemi). There you have it! This is a great start to a restoration project or drop in MOPOWER in this 2800 POUND TOY! It is not perfect or in show shape but if it was the reserve would be, well ….pricey! Look over the photos!
