Dodge Power Wagon 1978 Description

$10,500 OBO. No low ballers please – Serious buyers only

Up for sale is a 1978 Dodge W200 Power Wagon ¾ ton Club Cab 4x4 with an 8ft bed. This truck only has 57190 original miles on it. It was built in Warren, MI USA and began its life as a response utility truck for a fire department north of the Detroit Metro. It has the original 7.2L 440 cubic inch V8 engine mated with a 727 torqueflite 3 speed automatic. It has Dana 60 axles front and rear with a NP203 transfer case. It has an 8” lift kit with 3” body lift and taller tires totaling 15” above stock ride height. I just put brand new 17x8” flat black steel wheels and brand new 37X12.5R17 Federal tires that are E load rated. The tires still have adhesive from pulling off the stickers and have all the nipples on the tread. I am the third owner of the truck, and I want to be clear when I say this truck is not a fully restored show truck, but it's definitely not a junker either. It is a purpose built utilitarian beast and a blast to drive off road, on the dunes, through the woods, in the fields, and on the streets. It is just under 20’ long and is about 7’6” tall.

It had a lot of work done about 3 years ago, in which it was re-painted and had a first generation Dodge Ram 8 foot bed added to replace the original 8 foot utility box that was in rough shape. The paint is driver quality. The body is typical for a work horse truck – not perfect, but it is much better than what you would think of a Dodge truck of this period. During this time, the floors were replaced, it got new rockers and cab corners, new weather seals, rubber mat for the floor, Holly Truck Avenger carb, Edelbrock air cleaner, B&M extra capacity transmission pan, hooker headers into 3” collector with straight through mufflers, new radiator, new steering box and shaft, new battery, new front disc brake pads, new rear brake drum shoes. All of this work has approximately 1,500 miles on it.

Updates/maintenance this summer: new double groove 114A alternator, new belts, new high torque mini-starter, new battery/power cables, new voltage regulator, new starter solenoid, new brake and gas pedals, new 8 ball shifter knob (adds 50hp), brand new wheels and tires, new chrome 2.375” XXL 9/16”-18 lug nuts, new custom made black bench seat cover with accent stitching, new chrome bumpers front and rear, new class IV trailer hitch.

If you are familiar with old Dodge trucks, you are probably wondering about rust. The only area where there is any sign of rust is on the rear fenders of the 1st generation ram bed. There is a line on the top of the wheel well. It is most noticeable on the driver’s side, and just starting to show on the passenger side. The truck does come with the 1978 style rear fender patch panels should you choose to address this area. It doesn’t affect the function of the truck. It still has all of the original and hard to find trim, grill, and emblems.

I was getting ready to have the truck coated in flat red bed liner, so there are a lot of extra parts that come with the truck that I haven’t put on yet because it made more sense to after having the truck coated. I have new chrome door handles, new chrome door lock cylinders with keys, new chrome window cranks, new aircraft style black seat belts, and a bunch of other miscellaneous maintenance parts, gaskets, etc that will also come with the truck. The handles and cranks are currently on the truck and still work fine too. The truck also comes with an extra set of stock size wheels and tires that could be used as a set of rollers or emergency spare.

I’m selling because I got another toy, and I would rather see this truck go to a good home than sit in storage. It’s a strong runner and I have had a lot of fun driving the truck, mostly trips around town and light off road use on trails. It’s ready for a new home and new adventures. I don’t need to sell it, so no low ballers please – serious buyers only. Please message me on eBay or call or text with any specific questions in regards to the truck or negotiation on price. I’ve tried to be as thorough as possible in this description. No calls before 9:00 AM ET and after 9:00 PM ET please. 248.231.7196
