Ford Other 1955 Description
Up for sale is my 1955 Ford Customline 4-door sedan. It was built at the Ford plant in Somerville, MA.
I bought the Ford from a classic car dealer in Maine in October 2009. I’m the third owner. The previous owner had it for over 20 years. It is now located just outside Washington, DC.
The car was (and is) almost completely stock original. It has conventional steering and brakes, a manual choke and a new 6-volt Optima battery (more cold-cranking amps than the back-ordered reproduction Power Punch 2V, which I have the core for).
The Ford has a 272 V8 with a 2 barrel carb, fully restored in the spring of 2010. The starter and generator were refurbished in 2012. The front end and shocks were replaced in 2013, and the car received new correct carpet and replacement foam rubber padding for the front seat (it still as that “new car” smell).
The tires are recently replaced. (My thought originally was to make the vehicle a police car, so the tires are blackwall. I later changed my mind.) In 2014 the car was repainted to its correct two-tone colors of Aquatone Blue and Snowshoe White. The 2-speed Fordomatic transmission was rebuilt in 2015, and shifts perfectly.
Using the Hagerty valuation scale, this car is a solid #3 (Good). All glass is good – no cracks. The windows roll up and down no problem. Lights, wipers (vacuum) turn signals and gauges all work. The horn needs the diaphragm for the steering wheel, but works. The heater works fine.
The car looks and runs great, but is not perfect. As the pictures show, the bumpers are OK, but could use chroming. The headliner is not original. The radio antenna was bent slightly when the car was painted. The only rust issues that I have observed were some bubbling on the door panels, but that was addressed when the car was painted. The door handles and the hood ornament have some mild pitting. The side view mirror has a scratch.
Previous service records appear to verify the current odometer reading of 114,672.
Extra parts (included in sale): new valve cover gaskets, 6-volt generator (also restored), core for Power Punch reproduction battery and 6-volt battery charger.
Having said that, the car is totally roadworthy. I have all the service records since I bought the Ford, and in that time it has always been garaged. The car is fun to drive, turns heads and starts conversations. It is economical and easy to maintain, and it has those sharp features typical of the 1955-56 Fords. A great piece of American automotive history.
Vintage 1955 Virginia license plates are offered separately. Please inquire.
The buyer will deposit $1,000.00 by wire transfer within 24 hours of the sale. Full payment is due within seven (7) days of sale. Certified check or wire transfer accepted for payment, and the clear title and the vehicle will be released after the payment clears. The buyer is responsible for shipping and pickup. Sale to buyers in USA and Canada only.
The car is also advertised locally. The right is reserved to withdraw the vehicle from offer on eBay if it is sold locally (Washington, DC area).
I’ve got another project car to work on, so I’m selling this one – reluctantly. Hopefully the picture sample tells the story. If you’ve got questions or want to see more, just ask. Thanks for your interest!
