Ford Taurus 1993 Description

This is a 1993 Ford Taurus SHO or Super High Output. This car first came out in the 1980's. It got outstanding reviews as Ford's attempt to make a high powered luxury sports sedan. The only thing Taurus about these cars is the name badge. The engine is a Yamaha, he transmission is a Mazda and many of the non-body parts are also Mazda's. I have heard of a few of these hitting 500K miles, ut it is not rare for them to hit 300K before needing major repairs. This specific SHO is the first year to have an automatic transmission. All prior years were manual transmissions as the engine's made too much power for any automatic that was in production for front wheel drive cars. In an attempt to boost sales by selling to women Ford detuned the 1993 Yamaha engine so they could put an automatic on it.

This SHO spent some time in MN is snow country as the rust shows. However, here has been some substantial mechanical work done on the car over the years. As such you can use it as a daily driver, inish the restoration or use it as a parts car. Ford basically abandoned the car as it has a Yamaha engine. Some parts are getting very hard to find and Ford does not carry any parts, or will it work on these cars. The engine has been well cared for with regular oil changes. The heads were taken off for an internal inspection and virtually no wear was found. At that time new gaskets, park plugs, ires and miscellaneous parts were replaced. In addition new bolts were replaced in the engine pan as a safety measure. The tires and wheels are decent and it has passed emission tests with no problem the last two years. It is registered to be on the road in CT and is driven on a daily basis. If you need a cheap commuter car this one still has some life left in it. The parts shortage is getting so bad someone who works on these cars may just want it for the parts. Some parts are getting to be worth more than the entire car. However, ver the years it has had a new AC compressor, o the AC works. A new exhaust system was put on too. I don't have a lift so I can't show you the chassis. Even going through MN winters the under carriage is still in decent shape. The title is clean and it not a salvage or flood title. The car is actually owned bymy brother-in-law who is moving to a location where he does not need a car. Its going to kill him to sell this car. He loved the power and handling and was going to finish the restoration. Its a classic already and I think in a few more years in CT you can get antique plates and not go to emissions anymore. The Yamaha engine is in very good shape and the car never needed any work to get it to pass emissions. Overall I'd rate the car as fair to good. As you can see from the pictures the MN winters did take their toll on the body. The interior is in bad shape. There are many rips and tears. Almost all the accessories work. There is no longer a lean or any amount due on this car. All those balances were paid off years ago. The current owner has the title and it is 100% clean with no leans or amounts due against it.
