This car was purchased by me in 1982 in Greeley, Colorado and has been owned by me or my brother ever since. I moved back to Texas in 1984 and it has been a Texas car ever since. The car has been stored for many years (around 3-4) with my brother driving it only sporadically since. The car has been decently maintained but is in need of some restoration to bring it back to its glory days.
The car does start and run down the road but is currently not licensed since it cannot pass inspection in the state of Texas. The engine and transmission are original and have never been overhauled or rebuilt but the car seems to need someone to go through them now to make this a true road car again.
Air conditioning is not functioning, along with the power windows (needs motors in all doors) and some switches are needed for the power windows controls.
I have a box of extra parts in the trunk and will include a full set of Ford Factory Repair Manuals along with the Ford Factory Repair Manual for the climate control system (very rare). (See pictures)
The body is in need of some dent removal or panel replacement along with areas needing a good body man to fix previous work of other body work. (See in pictures). Paint is faded beyond repair and will need to be resprayed. Frame and most of the body is rust free with one exception where the drain for the top clogged years ago and rusted a silver dollar size hole below the passenger side B pillar body molding. (See pictures for image)
The convertible top is in decent shape but is signs of decay. Interior work is necessary for the seats covers, carpet and padded dash. In the picture you can see the convertible boot cover that appears to be in solid condition.
The bottom line is that this car needs work but if I had the facilities to restore it myself, I wouldn’t be selling it. I feel that someone with reasonable skills could make this a real nice weekend car again and someone with real ambition and talent would make it a show car again. I’d love to see this car go to someone who will appreciate the amazing power this 429 V8 has and will make it great again.
