Ford Mustang 1969 Description

1969 Ford Mustang Mach I Fastback

Gorgeous, rust free example fitted with 428ci big block, 4-speed manual transmission, and 3.50 rear end! Beautiful color of Candyapple Red over Black interior! Fitted with power steering and power disc brakes! Outstandingly solid example!

A new design was in store for the Mustang for 1969, both inside and out. It grew in overall size while maintaining the same wheelbase as the prior year, but was now 1.5 inches lower to the ground. With 10 engine options available, and several special performance packages to choose from, Ford was not going to let many showroom buyers offer excuses not to buy a Mustang! A new Mach I package replaced the GT package as the premier performance option. This package automatically added a flat black hood with lock-down pins, reflective body side stripe, competition suspension, chrome wheels, color-keyed outside sport mirrors, and pop-open gas cap! It required the Sportsroof body design and nothing less than a 351ci V8 under the hood of course! Buyers flocked to showrooms to have one of their own!

Offered here is a stellar 1969 Mustang Mach I fitted with a 428ci-4V V8 mated to a 4-speed manual transmission and 3.50:1 rear axle ratio. Options include front console, power disc brakes, power steering, rim blow horn, fold-down rear seat with trunk pass through, original 14” polished chrome wheels wrapped in period-correct Goodyear Custom Wide Tread F70-14 white letter belted tires, and upgraded Custom Auto Sound AM/FM/Cassette radio in the stock location.

This unbelievably solid example is absolutely rust free and as tight a body as we have ever seen! It began life in Pompano Beach when sold from Terry’s Ford on March 20th, 1969. Original special ordered as a R-code Mach I 428 Super Cobra Jet Ram Air equipped with the Drag Pack option, C6 automatic transmission, and 4.30:1 Traction-Lok rear axle ratio, we believe it spent the better part of its early life at the dragstrip! As with many cars pushing their limits to beat the competition, this car said goodbye to its factory-appointed drivetrain. It made its way to Georgia in the 1980’s spending many years in the Atlanta area and later with collector Don Harper owning it from June 1989 before it was picked up by Creative Auto Restoration of Odessa, TX in approximately 2003 where it would be completely restored to factory standards with very professional results!

Once completely disassembled, media blasted, it was beautifully prepped & painted in Candyapple Red, then reassembled with all new weather stripping, window seals, completely fresh interior upholstery, padded carpet, new console, fresh dash using original gauges, seat belts, and window glass. The original drivetrain was replaced with a fully rebuilt 1968 date-coded 428ci V8, 1969 Holley 730cfm carburetor, 1969 model year 4-speed transmission, and 1969 date-coded 3.50:1 rear axle assembly. With remarkable attention to detail and a completed build in 2005, it stayed in Odessa, TX with new owner Murry Erickson also from Odessa, TX. With only modest use and southern, garaged lifestyle, it continues to show very well today!

Anyone is welcome to their own inspection, but we were marveling at the solid structure and original caliber of the entire body, floors, and chassis once underneath this Mustang. It remains incredibly solid and rust free making for a super confident investment and perfect weekend driver to truly enjoy. Just prior to its arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, it received a fully rebuilt front end & alignment, complete brake inspection, new front calipers, brake master cylinder with new booster, & rear drum adjustment, new front wheel bearings, new billet flywheel, brand new clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, & throw-out bearing, and shifter linkage. The carburetor was fully rebuilt with complete ignition system tune up to include new spark 0plugs, points, and timing adjustment. All new drive belts and fresh fluids from the engine to the rear axle were changed. It starts and runs fantastic, goes through the gears ultra-smooth, with confident brakes & road manners! The under hood presentation is very attractive with all the proper stickers and details in place. Please feel welcome to schedule a chance to view this investment worthy Mustang in person, or call with questions and offers.
